Twice Lipscomb had to overcome leads Saturday afternoon against UMBC at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium.
Lipscomb finally got the timely hitting they needed in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 3-2 win.
Trailing 2-1, Jessie Brown opened with a pinch-hit single up the middle. Brown moved to second on a past ball. Presley Leebrick singled up the middle as well scoring Brown with the tying run. Amy Vetula followed with the third single up the middle for the Lady Bisons to load the bases.
Kelly Paulson pinch-ran for Leebrick and scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly to center by Peyton Ward.
Megan Gray, 7-0, allowed only three hits, one a home run to left field by Shanel Stott with two outs in the third. Gray struck out 10 and walked two.
The Lady Bisons answered in the third on an RBI bunt single by Hannah DeVault.
Courtney Coppersmith started for UMBC and scattered seven hits in six innings. She allowed one run, unearned. She struck out 13 and walked one.
Madie Leach, 1-4, opened the seventh in the circle for UMBC. She gave up three hits and tying and winning runs.
Leebrick and Vetula led the Lady Bisons with three hits each. DeVault had two hits.
Lipscomb is 9-6. UMBC drops to 3-5.
