NASHVILLE - May 15, 2010 looms large for the Lipscomb softball program. It was the day the Lady Bisons clinched their first-ever ASUN Tournament title.
The top-seeded Lipscomb squad had already taken out Campbell, Kennesaw State, and Stetson in DeLand, Florida, and were now set for revenge against No. 4 seed USC Upstate.
The Spartans had defeated Lipscomb 3-2 in game two of the tournament, sending the No. 1 seed through the gauntlet of the losers bracket. The Lady Bisons earned their revenge and then some, shutting out USC Upstate 11-0 in five innings.
Kellie Sirus, the ASUN Tournament MVP, was once again the team's top hitter that day. She batted 3-3 from the plate with three RBI, two runs scored, and a home run. The home run tied an NCAA record for her seventh-consecutive game with a four-bagger, with the streak lasting from May 6-15 and including every game in the ASUN Tournament.
Lipscomb's star pitcher Whitney Kiihnl earned the win on the mound, pitching all five innings in the shutout and allowing just two hits and one walk.
The Lady Bisons would move on to their first-ever NCAA Tournament where they would face UAB and Alabama in the Tuscaloosa Regional. Stay tuned for more on that during next week's Bisons Rewind.
