
Volleyball earns league-leading six selections on ASUN All-Decade Team

ATLANTA, Ga. - The ASUN Conference announced the Women's Volleyball 2010-19 All-Decade Team as 20 student-athletes were named to the list across seven programs. Lipscomb led the way with six student-athletes named to the All-Decade Team followed by five from FGCU, four from Kennesaw State, two from ETSU and one by Belmont, Jacksonville and North Florida.
Over the past 10 years, five programs have captured ASUN Championship titles in Lipscomb (4), Jacksonville (2), Kennesaw State (2), ETSU (1) and FGCU (1) while 10 student-athletes from five different institutions have landed Player of the Year. In 2018, FGCU also earned the ASUN's third-ever NCAA Tournament first-round win, defeating No. 13 UCF to advance into the second round.
To be named to the All-Decade Team an individual must have competed for at least two years in the decade as an ASUN student-athlete. Individuals that obtained one of the following criteria were named to the team; Three First Team All-Conference selections, four All-Conference selections, multiple Scholar-Athlete/Player of the Year. Individuals that obtained at least two of the following criteria were named to the team; Player/Tourney MVP/Freshman/Defensive Player/Libero/Scholar-Athlete of the Year, three All-Conference selections, two First Team All-Conference selections.
2010-19 Volleyball All-Decade Team (listed in alphabetical order by last name)
Dana Axner, FGCU (2018-pres.)
- A two-time Defensive Player of the Year and the 2018 Freshman of the Year, Axner helped the Eagles earn back-to-back Regular Season titles and the program's first ASUN Championship crown in 2018. The two-time First Team All-Conference selection has 1,198 career digs and sits at No. 2 with a 5.32 digs/set average. She is also a two-time All-Tournament Team member and holds the most Defensive Player of the Week honors at five.
Anaiah Boyer, Kennesaw State (2014-17)
- Boyer, a member of Kennesaw State's 2017 NCAA Tournament team, was named MVP of that season's ASUN Championship and earned her third consecutive All-Conference First Team nod (2015-17), one of only 14 players in league history to accomplish that feat. A four-time Player of the Week and two-time Defensive Player of the Week selection in her career, Boyer was also named to the All-Tournament Team three times (2015-17).
Lexi Broadwater, Kennesaw State (2016-19)
- The only player in ASUN history to capture back-to-back Setter of the Year honors (2018-19), Broadwater was part of Kennesaw State's two ASUN Championship title teams (2017, 2019). The Owls never finished outside the Top-Two in the Regular Season standings during her tenure. Broadwater ranks 11th for assists average (10.98) and 20th in total assists (2,832) in the ASUN career record book.
Amanda Carroll, FGCU (2015-19)
- One of two players in ASUN history to earn Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the same season (2017), Carroll helped lead the Eagles to a pair of ASUN Regular Season titles. She was also a member of FGCU's first ASUN Championship crown and NCAA Tournament appearance including an opening-round win at No. 13 UCF. She finished her career at FGCU as a three-time All-ASUN selection with 1,483 career kills (9th in ASUN history), 137 aces (6th) and 1,247 digs (27th). She was the 2015 ASUN Freshman of the Year and as sophomore set a championship record for total kills (60) and total attempts (168).
Megan Devine, ETSU (2010-13)
- The only ETSU player to be named a three-time First Team All-Conference selection, Devine holds the No. 1 spot in ASUN history in two categories: total career kills (1,940) and total kills for a conference season (322; 2013). The 2012 Player of the Year led the Buccaneers to the program's first ASUN Championship title and was named the 2012 Tournament MVP while earning her third-consecutive All-Tournament team honor before becoming just one of three in league history to earn four All-Tournament nods in 2013.
Jewell Dobson, Lipscomb (2011-15)
- Dobson's accolades include being named Player of the Year in 2013, three All-Conference selections, two All-Tournament Team nods and being a member of two Lipscomb ASUN Championships. She appeared on the 2015 All-Academic Team and holds the league record for a .552 attack percentage in a championship which she set in 2011.
- A two-time ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2012 and 2013, Dotson made a total of three appearances on the All-Academic Team. Along with two All-Conference Team selections, during the 2013 season, she set records for both total assists in conference matches (848) and during a championship (163).
Liesl Engelbrecht, Kennesaw State (2015-18)
- Engelbrecht was a three-time All-Conference Team honoree during her career with Kennesaw State, landing on the First Team in 2017 and Second Team in both 2016 and 2018. A three-time Defensive Player of the Week, she earned a pair of All-Tournament Team selections (2017-18) and was a member of the Owls' 2017 ASUN Championship team.
Brittnay Estes, Lipscomb (2012-15)
- In 2015, Estes earned both the Player of the Year and Tournament MVP honor as the Bisons captured the league title. Over her four-year career in Nashville, she would collect two All-Conference Team selections, two All-Tournament Team nods and four Player of the Week honors.
Lauren Ford, Lipscomb (2011-14)
- Ford was the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2014 and earned a total of three All-Conference selections during her career, including First Team honors in 2013 and 2014. A three-time Player of the Week, she was a member of three All-Academic Teams (2012-14) and two All-Tournament Teams (2011, 13). The 2011 season also saw her named to the All-Freshman Team as Lipscomb won the ASUN Championship.
Meredith Hardy, ETSU (2011-13)
- The two-time First Team selection holds the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in ASUN history for total blocks in a single-season both overall and in conference play. In her three years, she averaged 1.35 blocks/set, the best in ASUN history, while sitting second in total blocks at 474. She also helped the Buccaneers claim the program's first ASUN Championship title in 2012, landing a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Maggie Johnson, Belmont (2008-11)
- In 2011, Johnson became the first of only two players in ASUN Volleyball history to earn Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the same season. She etched her name into several single-season record categories for her outstanding 2011 season, posting 513 kills (9th), a 4.62 kills/set average (8th). In her four seasons with the Bruins, she recorded 1,558 kills, ranking sixth-best in the ASUN.
Carlyle Nusbaum, Lipscomb (2015-18)
- A two-time Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017, Nusbaum was a member of two Lipscomb championship squads and was named Tournament MVP after the 2016 title victory. She is one of the Bisons' three student-athletes to make First Team All-Conference three times and her 12 Player of the Week selections is an ASUN record.
Kayla Ostrom, Lipscomb (2013-16)
- Ostrom was a member of Lipscomb's back-to-back ASUN Championship squads in 2015 and 2016 while earning the conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor both years. In 2015, she was also named Setter of the Year and a First Team All-Conference selection. She added a Second Team nod in 2014 and also appeared on the All-Academic Team three times (2014-16).
Kristi Piedimonte, Kennesaw State (2014-17)
- A three-time All-Academic Team selection (2015-17), Piedimonte earned both the Setter of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2017 as her Owls squad captured its first ASUN Championship title. In the ASUN career record book, she ranks ninth in total assists with 4,005 and was a two-time First Team All-Conference honoree (2016-17) as well as being named to the 2017 All-Tournament Team.
- Pridgeon is a three-time ASUN All-Conference selection (2010-12) and ranks in the Top 25 for three categories in the conference career record book. She checks-in fifth for total kills (1,593), ninth in total aces (128) and 25th for total digs (1,293). Pridgeon was also named the 2009 Freshman of the Year and earned All-Tournament Team honors in 2012.
Maggie Rick, FGCU (2015-18)
- The only Eagle to be a four-time All-Conference selection, Rick finished her career at FGCU with 4,540 assists which is fifth-best in league history. The 2018 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and 2016 Setter of the Year helped FGCU claim the Regular Season title in 2018 before winning the championship crown for the first time in program history. The Eagles went on to earn the league's third-ever NCAA Tournament First Round win over No. 13 UCF.
Daniele Serrano, FGCU (2016-19)
- A three-time All-ASUN selection from 2017-19, Serrano finished her career as an Eagle with 483 total blocks, the best in ASUN history, while posting a total block average of 1.09 (6th) and a .338 hitting percentage (T11). She helped FGCU claim back-to-back Regular Season titles (2017-18), its first ASUN Championship title in 2018 and was named the Tournament MVP.
Sammie Strausbaugh, Jacksonville (2012-14)
- The Player of the Year and Tournament MVP for the 2014 season, Strausbaugh helped the Dolphins collect the program's third-ever ASUN Championship crown. The two-time First Team selection and 2012 Freshman of the Year sits fifth in ASUN history with 567 kills for a single-season (2014) and racked up 1,366 in her three years while averaging 3.65 kills/set.
Cortney VanLiew, FGCU (2017-pres.)
- A two-time ASUN Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection from 2018-19, VanLiew has helped lead the Eagles to back-to-back Regular Season titles and the program's first-ever championship crown in 2018. In her three seasons, the Eagles have also posted 20 or more wins including one of the best records in the program's DI era in 2019 (27-5; .844). With her one year of eligibility remaining, she has a 3.68 kills/set career average, 12th best in ASUN history.
