Men's Cross Country

BARNETT AND BUTCHER TAKE CROSS COUNTRY FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS AT ASUN CHAMPIONSHIP

ORLANDO – Lipscomb's Men's and Women's Cross Country teams began their postseason berth with finishes in third and second respectively at the ASUN Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning. Their efforts were highlighted by a sweep of the Freshman of the Year awards as Mackenzie Barnett and Ben Butcher were named this year's honorees.

Barnett was the third Bison across the line to finish 9th out of 98 runners with a time of 17:20.7. Sophomore Lydia Miller led the Bisons to finish 5th with a time of 17:11.9 while Colbi Borland finished 7th with a time of 17:20.2 in the 5K.

Sophomore Merabu Nagwandala finished 11th while freshman Liza Corso finished 16th and sophomore Sydney Liddle took 20th. The women's team secured their second-place finish in the championship with 48 points for the meet.

Butcher was the seventh Bison across the line for the men as he finished 25th out of 98 runners with a time of 25:06.5.

Senior Grant O'Callaghan led the herd to finish 3rd with a time of 24:10.0 while Brady Johnson followed in 7th and Adam Cortez finished 15th. Brent Leber and Joshua Bell finished at 17th and 18th respectively for the Bisons.

The top seven finishes for the men's team were rounded out by Sam Shaylor at 23rd and Ben Butcher at 25th. The men's squad logged seven top-25 finishes in the championship to lock in their third-place finish Saturday morning.
