NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Following standout performances at the Michael Pretorius Memorial Invitational, two Lipscomb Cross Country athletes have been honored with ASUN weekly awards. Joe Ponter swept Men's Runner of the Week and Men's Freshman of the Week, while Mallory Bigelow was named Women's Freshman of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Following last week's ASUN freshman of the week honors, Ponter, a freshman, continued his strong debut season by claiming his first collegiate individual victory in the men's 8k at Percy Warner Park. He crossed the line in 25:21.93 to lead the Bisons to a commanding first-place team finish. His performance also marked the second-fastest 8k time of his career and solidified him as one of the top newcomers in the conference.
On the women's side, sophomore Mallory Bigelow earned ASUN Women's Freshman of the Week honors after pacing the Bisons to a team title in the women's 5k. Bigelow finished second overall in 18:33.63, spearheading a pack that placed five Lipscomb runners in the top 11. Her performance anchored the Bisons' depth and played a crucial role in securing the team win.
This marks the second consecutive week Lipscomb has collected multiple ASUN weekly honors, showcasing the program's depth and momentum early in the season.
The Bisons will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Gans Creek Classic hosted by the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo.
