Men's Tennis splits crosstown weekend with Vandy, Tennessee State

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb men's tennis split a pair of crosstown road matches in its second weekend of play.

The Bisons fell 6-1 on Saturday at Vanderbilt before blanking Tennessee State 6-0 Sunday at Hadley Park.

The lone victory in the opening match against the Commodores came at No. 3 singles with sophomore Maksim Bogdanovich rolling over Vanderbilt's Max Freeman 6-0, 6-0.

Sunday was a different story with the Bisons going 12-2 in combined sets between singles and doubles.

Jorge Ortegon and Pedro Uribe opened with a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles before Jake Penny and Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto earned a 6-2 victory to clinch the point on court two.

In singles action, No. 1 Pablo Caffarena (6-2, 6-4), No. 3 Uribe (6-2, 6-1) and No. 5 Penny (6-0, 6-1) all won in straight sets to clinch the match.

Bogdanovich came from behind in a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory on the second line, while Garcia-Nieto also won in three frames 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

 
UP NEXT
Lipscomb is back in action next weekend with its first home matches of the season. The Bisons will host UT Chattanooga on Friday and Samford on Saturday inside Richland Country Club.
