Men's Tennis takes care of North Alabama on Senior Day

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb men's tennis team sent its seniors out on a high note Sunday, defeating North Alabama 6-1 on Senior Day at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.

Lipscomb honored seniors Pablo Caffarena and Jorge Ortegon in a ceremony before the match.

The Bisons (6-5, 2-1 ASUN) came out of the gate firing to win the doubles point on courts two and three. The pairing of Jake Penny and Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto reeled off a 6-1 win at No. 3 to improve to 6-1 on the year.

Then Caffarena and Maksim Bogdanovich clinched the first point 6-3 at No. 2.

In singles, Ortegon put the Bisons up 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-4 sweep at the second position. UNA got on the board with its lone point, winning on court six.

The Bisons then got straight-set victories from Pedro Uribe (6-1, 7-5) and Bogdanovich (7-6, 7-6) to secure the match victory for the purple and gold. Uribe has now won four straight outings to improve to 8-3 in singles.

Caffarena then pulled out a three-set win on the top line 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 before Garcia-Nieto came from behind to win 6-7, 6-3, 12-10.

UP NEXT
Lipscomb hits the road for its final three matches of the regular season. Next weekend the Bisons travel to Liberty on Thursday and Bellarmine on Saturday. Both matches have a 2 p.m. start time.
