Name and sport played:

Seth Kuwik - Baseball

What years did you compete for Lipscomb, and who coached you?

I played from Fall 2001 through the Spring of 2005. Wynn Fletcher was my coach.

What teammates were most memorable, and why?

This is tough question because I have a lot of good memories with my teammates.  I spent most of my time with the pitchers and enjoyed practicing, playing flip and joking around constantly—especially with Adam Blackwell and Zach Duncan.

I also cannot forget my former roommate Patrick O'Rourke who was a great baseball player and a real "bulldog".

Chuck and Billy were also very memorable and great supporters of the team.

What degrees have you earned, from where, and when?

Lipscomb University - BS, Biology
University of Toledo - Doctor of Medicine
State University of New York at Buffalo – Orthopaedic Surgery Residency
Lenox Hill Hospital – Fellowship in Adult Reconstruction of Knee

Why did you attend Lipscomb?

I attended Lipscomb University for the Christian education and atmosphere and the chance to play NCAA division I baseball.

What is your favorite athletic memory at Lipscomb?

My favorite game at Lipscomb was on May 7, 2005.  We were playing Stetson, who was ranked in the top 25, during a night game.  I had just graduated earlier that day, so I had a lot of family in attendance.

Lipscomb was winning 6-5 in the top of fifth and I was brought in with runners on second and third and no outs.  I was able to pitch out of the inning with no runs allowed.  We scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up 9-5.  I finished the game with 0 runs, seven strikeouts and only two hits.

Who influenced your athletic career at Lipscomb?

Coach Cheetham, who was our pitching coach, had the most influence on my game.  He was especially helpful in working on pitches and location in bull pen sessions and developing a solid approach for each game.

What do you remember about Lipscomb campus life during your time here?

Campus life was busy as I was on the pre-medicine route majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry.  When I was not in class or studying, I was working out, practicing or playing baseball.

What is the most valuable lesson you learned in your time at Lipscomb?

The most valuable lesson I learned was how to balance my time between school and baseball and be successful at both.  This is a skill that has been applicable to my life as an orthopedic surgeon.

Who were your favorite professors & why?

Dr. Jim Arnett was my favorite my professor. He taught cell biology and capstone. I really enjoyed his teaching style and the things I learned in his classes have been important for my medical career.

Where did you grow up?

My father was in the Air Force, so we moved frequently growing up.I lived in Arkansas, Illinois, Guam, Georgia and finished middle school and high school in the Dayton, Ohio area.

Where do you live, and what do you do now?

Currently I live with my family in Canfield, Ohio.

I am a fellowship trained hip and knee surgeon and partner at Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates.  I primarily do Mako robotic assisted total knee and hip replacements, revision hip and knee replacements and fracture surgeries.  I am also a part owner of the The Orthopaedic Surgery Center where I do most of my outpatient joint replacements.
