MEN’S TENNIS FALLS AGAINST BUTLER IN SEASON OPENER

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb men's tennis faced off against the Butler University Bulldogs on Saturday in a tough 3-4 loss to begin their spring season. The Bulldogs took a trio of singles victories as well as the doubles point to solidify their win.

In the No. 1 doubles position for the Bisons, Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto and Pedro Uribe partnered up for a 4-4 draw with Butler's Thomas Brennan and Alvaro Huete. Courts two and three both saw Bulldog victories over the Bisons, 3-6 and 4-6 respectively.

"Today was a tough match to lose 3-4. I didn't think we played particularly well in doubles," said head coach Geoff Hernandez. "I think we have the pieces to do it, but we were a little all over the place in our performances there."

In singles, the Bisons picked up victories on courts three, four, and five, each in 2-1 victories over their opponents. Pedro Uribe secured the Bisons' first win of the day on court three over Butler's Michael Dickinson (6-4, 2-6, 7-5).

Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto (6-3, 5-7, 6-4) and Alex Mesquida (6-4, 3-6, 6-4) traded blows with their opponents before bringing home victories for the Bisons on courts four and five.

"Singles came out better," coach Hernandez said. "We had some spots that need to be tightened up and players who are going to grow into their positions, but it's early in the season and a great way for us to get ready for the Battle of the Boulevard."

On courts one and two junior Maksim Bogdanovich and sophomore Luka Stojanovic fell in 0-2 losses to their Bulldog foes. Graduate Student Sam Fischer fell at the No. 6 position to Butler's Michael Karr 3-6, 4-6.

"So, credit to Butler for being rock solid," said Hernandez. "I think we have plenty of room to grow from here. It's only information for us and we have to keep building going into the rest of indoor play."

The Bisons will be back in action at the Richland Country Club on Friday, Jan. 28 to face off against local for Belmont at 6:00pm.
