BISONS BOUNCE BACK FROM BELMONT LOSS TO SWEEP AUSTIN PEAY IN SECOND WEEKEND OF PLAY

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NASHVILLE – Lipscomb's men's tennis team played their second weekend of home matches The Bisons fell in a 5-2 loss to the Bruins despite strong doubles showings from their doubles pairings but bounced back with a 7-0 sweep of the Austin Peay Governors.

"This was an important weekend for us, to try and correct some things from Butler and then again from our Belmont match," said head coach Geoff Hernandez. "Our doubles play was way better this weekend, that was something we really focused on this week. I think our spirit on the court – as far as the team really trying to be a team and cheering each other on – we did that part way better."

In their Friday match against Belmont, Sam Fischer and Jake Penny got things started for the Bisons with a 6-3 win at the No. 2 position for the Bisons. The duo earned the first victory of the day over Bruins pairing Tomas Luis and Diego Castro.

The second pairing to secure a win was that of Pedro Uribe and Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto with their 6-3 triumph against Arthur Toledo and Jack Randall at the No. 1 position.

Following doubles play, Maksim Bogdanovich earned the sole singles victory for the Bisons in a 6-3, 6-2 finish over Belmont's Arthur Toledo. Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto and Alex Mesquida each took their opponent to three sets before ultimately falling to their foes in the No. 4 and 5 positions respectively.

"We're just getting guys in their sports," Hernandez said. "We know that it takes time to build a team that can beat strong programs, but we feel we have the pieces, we just have to work our way through the first month or so."

With a quick turnaround time, the Bisons made an impressive come back as they blanked Austin Peay in their Saturday match.

Continuing their strong doubles play, Jake Penny and Sam Fischer earned the first victory of the day at the No. 2 position with a 6-1 win against the Governors' Oliver Andersson and Gabriel Nolasco Pozo. Maksim Bogdanovich and Luka Stojanovic cemented the Bisons' doubles success of the day at the No. 3 position with their 6-3 triumph.

The Bisons continued their success in their singles play as all six Bisons claimed victory against their opponents. Maksim Bogdanovich got things started for the team with a 6-1, 6-2 finish over Austin Peay's Frederic Schlossmann at the No. 1 position.

Four of the five other Bisons competing as singles for the day earned held their opponents to 2-0 wins while sophomore Luka Stojanovic earned his success in a hard fought match against Austin Peay's Anton Damberg in a 3-7, 6-4, 10-0 victory.

"I really am happy with the progress that the guys are willing to make and want to make, so we just have to keep building and take our first win," said Henandez. "Luka had his first win as a Bison after coming back from an injury which is huge and we're looking ahead to a great match against Vanderbilt."
