Women’s XC Claims 2022 ASUN Championship Title, Polk Named ASUN Women’s XC Coach of the Year

HUNTSVILLE Ala. – Lipscomb's cross country programs took to the John Hunt Cross Country Course in Huntsville, Alabama Saturday morning for the 2022 ASUN Championship meet. The women's team claimed their ninth conference title with a total of 35 points and Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Nick Polk was named the 2022 ASUN Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. The men's team claimed a third-place finish with a total of 102 points.
 
Eight members of the women's program earned spots on ASUN All-Conference teams while five members of the men's program earned spots on the men's side for the Bisons.
 
The women's squad ran first, setting off bright and early with an 8am CT start time for the 5K. All nine of the Bisons who ran for the women's program grabbed personal best times in the meet, including three Bisons broke the previous program record of 17:00.4 and the 17-minute barrier with their times.
 
Sophomores Lydia Miller claimed the Conference Runner-Up title with a time of 16:26.5 while Colbi Borland crossed the line at 16:34.2 to earn third place in the meet. Their fellow classmate Liza Corso led the next group of Bisons across the line for ninth, tenth, and eleventh place as she posted a 16:56.00. She was followed by Ally Suyak at 17:00.70 and Mackenzie Barnett at 17:02.50 to seal Lipscomb's victory.
 
Two more Bisons earned top-20 finishes at 15th and 19th for Kiara Carter (17:20.10) and Aly Negovetich (17:29.60) respectively. Senior Maddie Moody posted a time of 17:44.40 and freshman Abigail Horevay brought the Bisons home with a 17:52.10 to finish 35th in the 5K.
 
The men's team took off at 8:45am Saturday morning, led from the get-go by junior Brady Johnson who earned a top-15 finish with his time of 23:55.60 in the 8K to guide the Bisons to their third-place finish. Nick Regas earned a top-20 finish at 24:13.60.
 
Scott McKenzie and Braedon Palmer put up big surges in the final half of the race to finish 24th and 25th with times of 24:19.70 and 24:23.20 respectively. Levi Streeval was the fifth Bison across the line with a 30th-place finish (24:37.20) to earn the final points towards Lipscomb's third place finish.
 
Brady Yingst followed Streeval across the line as his time of 24:39.90 saw him cross the line 31st out of 116 runners. Bing Hudson and James Schmidt crossed the line 45th and 46th at 25:02.00 and 25:04.00 and sophomore Andy Stohr was the final Bison across the finish with a time of 25:21.90 to mark 54th place.

Lipscomb's squads will return to Huntsville, Ala. on Friday, Nov. 11 for the NCAA South Regional Championships. The women's team will run first at 8:30 a.m. CT and the men will follow at 9 a.m. CT.
