THE SHORT STORY
Lipscomb Women's Basketball fell 101-95 in triple overtime on the road at Northern Kentucky in their second contest of the season.
Jalyn Holcomb and
Aleah Sorrentino continued their impressive starts to the season as Holcomb tallied 28 points while Sorrentino poured in 27 for the Bisons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons struggled with some turnovers in the early going, which prevent them from getting anything going offensively.
The teams traded buckets for most of the first quarter of play. After trailing 10-6 with 6:39 to go in the first, Holcomb knocked down a midrange jumper, followed by a
Claira McGowan layup to tie things up at 10-10.
The Norse would then go on a 14-6 run to close out the first quarter with an eight-point lead.
Lipscomb made some adjustment defensively after the first quarter, and it showed as they held NKU to four points in the first five minutes of the second quarter.
During that stretch, the Bisons' offense came alive to closed out the second quarter. The Lipscomb run was led by Sorrentino who cut the deficit to 10 a transition layup on a beautiful behind the back dime from
Ainhoa Cea.
Lipscomb closed the quarter on a 6-3 run to cut their deficit to just six at the half.
Continuing their momentum from the first two quaters, the Bisons' offense caught fire as they mounted a furious comeback in the third quarter. The squad outscored the Norse 22-13 in that frame, going 7-17 from the floor giving them a two-point lead (53-51) going into the fourth.
After trading baskets for a majority of the fourth quarter, with 15 second remaining in regulation,
Bella Vinson kept her team alive with a three-pointer to force overtime.
In the first overtime period, both teams played stout defense with only four combined points scored, extending the game to a second overtime.
Lipscomb held an eight-point advantage with just 1:44 remaining this time around, but NKU closed the second overtime on a 9-1 run to force a third.
The squad fought hard until the final whistle, but weren't able to hold on in the third overtime, falling to the Norse 101-95.
