Women’s Cross Country’s Lydia Miller Qualifies for 2022 NCAA National Championship

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Lipscomb women's cross country's Lydia Miller earned her way to the 2022 NCAA Cross Country National Championship as announced by the Selection Committee Saturday afternoon. Miller claimed her spot in the race with a program record at the 2022 NCAA South Regional Meet on Friday with her time of 19:52.40 to become the fourth consecutive individual to represent Lipscomb cross country in the national championship.

A standout runner for the Bisons all season, Miller now holds the program record for both the 5K and the 6K distance. She was the first Bison to break the 17-minute threshold in the 5K when she logged a 16:26.50 at the ASUN Conference Championships to claim second overall and help lead the Bisons to their ninth Conference Champions title.

Miller's performance this weekend also stands as Lipscomb's first sub-20 mark in the 6K as she once again led the Bisons to the line as the seventh finisher overall to earn fourth in the region as a team.

The Worthington, Ohio product was joined in the top-20 of the 228-runner field in Huntsville, Ala. by classmate Colbi Borland who crossed the line 18th overall with a time of 20:14.70. Borland's time broke the former program record of 20:20.5 that was set in 2014 by Madi Talbert at the very same meet.

Miller has been a driving force for Lipscomb's women's team this season, leading the Bisons across the line in four of the five meets she has competed in this year and crossing the line right behind Lipscomb front-runner Borland at the University of Missouri's Gans Creek Classic.

In each of those performances, Miller has finished in the top-10 of all runners, three times earning a spot in the top-five, and twice crossing the line second overall.  She earned the first ASUN Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week title of the season for her second-place finish at the Trevecca Michael Pretorius Invite with a time of 17:54.9 in the 5K.

Miller will head to Stillwater, Okla. for the 2022 NCAA Cross Country National Championships. The race will begin at 9:20 a.m. CT.
