Track & Field Opens Indoor Season at Commonwealth College Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lipscomb's track & field teams kicked off their 2022-23 indoor season at the Commonwealth College Opener. The squads combined for 11 top-10 final finishes, five top-five final finishes, a first-place finish, and a new program record.

Aislinn McElhaney led the field events squad for the Bisons with a new program record for long jump at 5.94m (19' 5.83") to claim second place in the event. Her distance smashes McElhaney's own previous program record of 5.81m (19' 0.74") set at the 2022 ASUN Indoor Championships.

Sophomore Bella Jackson demonstrated her dominance in the high jump as she opened the season with a first-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.75m (5' 8.90").Franziska Decker earned another top-five finish for the field squad with a distance of 12.81m (42' 0.33") to claim fourth place in the event.

For the women's track squad, freshman Makayla Watson earned second place in her qualifying round of the 60m dash with a time of 8.06. Kennedy Miller represented the Bisons in the final of the women's 60m dash with an eight-place finish behind a time of 7.73.

The women's team pulled together for a fourth-place finish in the 4x400m relay as Jaden Mathews, Abigail Alvarado, Kennedy Miller, and Aislinn McElhaney combined for a time of 3:54.39.

The men's team was highlighted by a top-three finish in the 1,000m run as Bill Comstock turned in a time of 2:27.88 to claim second place. Freshman Saxon Brown turned in an impressive time of 1:05.25 in the 500m run, just 0.30 seconds behind the program record to earn eighth place.

Dimitri Kemp earned a top-10 finish of his own in the long jump with a distance of 6.78m (22' 2.93") while Malik Baker claimed a fourth-place finish in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.79 in the finals.

The men's team continued the squad's success in the 4x400m relay with a sixth-place finish from Demontae Wilson, Saxon Brown, Dimitri Kemp, and Bill Comstock with a time of 3:22.06.

The Bisons will continue their indoor track season after the holidays at the Commodore Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt University over Friday and Saturday, Jan. 13-14.
