Cross Country Men, Women Take Fourth at Belmont Opener

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb cross country teams kicked off their season with a local meet on Friday morning at the Belmont Opener. Both the men's and women's squads earned fourth place at the meet in their respective 5Ks.

The men's squad ran first at 9am CT with sophomore returner Andy Stohr leading the Bisons off the line. Stohr held his place in the front of the pack throughout the race and was the first Bison across the line with a 16:13.86 in the 5K to finish 14^th overall.

Freshman Cayden Durrough was the next Bison across the line as he claimed a spot in the top-20 in his collegiate debut with a time of 16:22.59 to secure 19^th. Bill Comstock was the third Bison to the finish where the Vermont transfer finished 27^th overall with a time of 17:16.08.

Freshman Saxon Brown and sophomore Lewis Ngwenya rounded out the pack for Lipscomb and the duo crossed the line 33^rd and 36^th respectively. Brown posted a time of 18:08.52 in his first collegiate race while Ngwenya posted a time of 19:24.64 to bring the Bisons home with a total of 129 points.

The women's squad logged a total of 101 points to collect their fourth-place finish. Freshman Ellie Brewer and sophomore Kaylee Wilson led the squad across the line with 15^th and 16^th place finished with times of 19:18.690 and 19:23.24.

Freshmen Grace McGuckin and Juané Klaus were next across the line with times of 19:30.44 and 19:49.13 to claim 20^th and 22^nd overall for Lipscomb. Allena Klamorick brought the Bisons home with a time of 20:22.440 to finish 28^th in the first race of the season.

The Bisons will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Trevecca Invitational. They will take once again to the Vaughn's Gap Cross Country Course at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn.
