Volleyball concludes day one of LUV Invite

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb volleyball wrapped up its first day of the LUV Invite with a 3-0 loss to Ball State Friday night in Allen Arena. The Cardinals took the match by scores of 25-15, 25-19, 25-18.
Freshman Jada DiVita was the only Bison with double figures in kills with 12, matching her career high. She did post a season high .417 attack percentage and three digs.
Sophomore Addi Pelham recorded seven kills, while Kailee Bass pulled in a team-high four blocks.
Freshman Sophia Hudepohl set a season high with 23 assists and eight digs.
Ball State outhit Lipscomb .344 to .135 on the night and only totaled nine miscues, compared to 20 for the purple and gold.

Lipscomb will conclude the LUV Invite at 7 p.m. Saturday against Oklahoma in the last of three games to be played in Allen.

- The Cardinals took an early 4-1 advantage before the Bisons got five kills from four different players pull back to within 7-6.
- BSU used a 6-0 run to double its lead at 22-11 and held on from there for the win.
- DiVita caught fire, landing a team-high six kills on seven swings for a .857 attack percentage.
- Ball State swung .565 and did not have an error in 23 attacks (13 kills).
- Lipscomb hit .286 in the first frame with 13 assists on 13 kills.

Set 2
- Set two was the closest frame of the night with 15 ties and four lead changes.
- Neither side led by more than two points until the Cardinals broke a 17-17 tie with a 6-0 run.
- Back-to-back kills from Pelham and Caroline Stogner tried to get the Bisons back in it, but Ball State was too much.
- Pelham recorded four kills, while Stogner and DiVita each had three.
- BSU outhit Lipscomb .150 to .042 as neither side was able to find a rhythm offensively.

Set 3
- The Cardinals jumped out to a 5-1 lead early on before kills from DiVita, Bass and Courtney Jones helped Lipscomb to a 4-1 run.
- Facing its biggest deficit of the set, down 14-7, the Bisons made an 8-1 push to level the score at 15. Ashleigh Albert landed two aces and Libby Steinhart put down another in the run.
- In the midst of a lengthy delay from a scorekeeper error, Ball State put together a 5-1 spurt to help finish off the night.
- BSU won the hitting battle .424 to .143 and had only two miscues on 33 attacks.
- DiVita paced the squad with three kills, while Hudepohl assisted on eight of the 11 kills.
