Coach Roeser Tallies First Win, Men’s Tennis defeats Cumberland To Open Season, 6-1

Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb men's tennis team opened their 2023 season with an indoor matchup against the Cumberland Phoenix at the Richland Country Club. The Bisons clinched all three doubles matches and posted five singles wins en route to earning a 6-1 victory over the Phoenix to notch the first win under new head coach Ben Roeser.

Friday's match saw Lipscomb start early in their first competition of the new year by winning each of the three doubles matches. The doubles team of Jake Penny and Vikash Singh opened the match with a 6-2 win on court three, followed closely by Luka Stojanovic and Carlos Salas Tulla who posted a 6-2 win in the number one spot to clinch the doubles point for the Bisons.

The duo of Maksim Bogdanovich and Alex Mesquida teamed up to claim a 6-3 win in the second spot to round out the wins for the Herd in the doubles competition.

The strong play continued for the Bisons in the singles competition as Bogdanovich posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the number one spot to open the action. Henrique Ushizima won his number four singles match by a score of 1-6, 6-1, 6-2, before Singh clinched a 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 win in the third spot.

Salas Tulla and Penny clinched wins in the number fifth (6-4, 6-2) and sixth (6-2, 6-4) spots to complete the scoring for Lipscomb.
