Bisons Battle with Bears and Claim Sixth ASUN Victory

Final Score: Lipscomb 1, Central Arkansas 0
Location: Nashville, Tenn. (Lipscomb Soccer Complex)
Records: Lipscomb (10-4-0), Central Arkansas (5-6-3)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The ASUN-leading Lipscomb women's soccer team welcomed the #2 Central Arkansas to the Lipscomb Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon for a showdown between the two powerhouses. After Marcella Cash was fouled in the Bears' 18-yard box, Kelli Beiler scored her fourth penalty kick goal of the season to secure the Bisons' sixth consecutive ASUN win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons burst out of the gate with intent in Sunday's highly anticipated matchup between the top two teams in the ASUN. Lipscomb's squad set an incredibly fast offensive pace for the match with Kiara Pralle putting a shot on the books only 20 seconds into play, followed by a shot from Faith Adams just 66 seconds later.

The Bears showed early signs of life as the visitors gained control of the ball to log their first shot of the match and provide netminder Sara Kile the opportunity to earn her first save of the day within the first five minutes of play. Play continued and the Bisons dominated the offensive game early in the match, recording seven unanswered shots in the first thirty minutes of play, including on-target shots from Adams, Logan McFadden, and Emanuela Schurch.

On the final shot of that rush, Marcella Cash drew a foul in the Bears' 18-yard box from one of the visiting defenders and earned the Bisons a penalty kick opportunity. Kelli Beiler stepped up to the dot and claimed her fourth penalty kick goal of the season to give the Purple and Gold a 1-0 lead 26 minutes into play.

With impressive coordination from their defense, Lipscomb's squad continued to control the offensive action and the squad continued to record shots unanswered in the first half. Shelby Craft put a pair of shots on target in three minutes that forced saves from the Central Arkansas keeper, followed by a pair of shots from KK Pavatt – including one that smacked off the woodwork – to end the half with a Lipscomb lead.

The Bears battled back as the final 45' began and the visitors quickly claimed possession and made their way into the Bisons' defensive end to put three shots on the books less than three minutes into the return to play. Lipscomb's defense denied the Bears any solid chances; however, and sent the ball back into the Bears' end for Schurch and Lydia Hindt to take shots of their own.

The contentious match continued but the Bisons battled through the chaos and inundated the Bears' defense with shot after shot, totaling 12 shots in the second half – five of which came from Cash. Lipscomb's deluge of offensive chances failed to find their marks in this match and the 1-0 score held through the final whistle and the Bisons extended their stay at the top of the ASUN standings.
