Bisons Land Three on ASUN All-Academic Teams

ATLANTA, Ga. – Lipscomb cross country saw three of their athletes named to the 2023 ASUN All-Academic Teams Wednesday after an impressive 2023 campaign so far both on and off the course. Lindsay Ott represented Lipscomb on the women's team while AJ Goecker and Ben Butcher claimed spots for Lipscomb on the men's team.
 
"We're thankful for Ben, AJ, and Lindsay's efforts in leading our team on the course and in the classroom," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Nick Polk. "We love to have balanced student-athletes and they certainly represent that well."
 
Lindsay Ott made an immediate impact this season after joining the squad as a graduate transfer while also recording a 4.0 cumulative GPA towards her Master's in Biomolecular Science. She made her debut in the Purple and Gold with a personal best 5K time of 17:50.2 at the Trevecca Michael Pretorius Invite to finish eighth overall and help the squad claim second place at the meet.
 
Ott then clocked a 6K time of 21:34.7 to finish 18th overall out of 227 runners at the Gans Creek Invitational, hosted by the University of Missouri. She next logged a personal best 6K time of 21:33.8 to finish sixth overall at the Angel Mounds Invite, helping push the squad to their first-place team finish.
 
AJ Goecker has been a top runner for the Bisons since he joined the squad as a graduate transfer this season while also logging a 4.0 cumulative GPA towards his Master's in Exercise and Nutrition Science. Goecker his first appearance in the Purple and Gold at the Trevecca Michael Pretorius Invite with a ninth-place finish and a time of 25:38.0.
 
He then claimed first place out of 183 runners at the Nike XC Town Twilight – College Division meet with a time of 25:29.1. Goecker was the second Bison across the line and the 14th overall runner to the finish at the Angel Mounds Invite from a 25:22.5 and he finished 33rd overall at the ASUN Championships with a time of 25:32.3.
 
Ben Butcher collected a 3.78 cumulative GPA towards his Bachelor's in Sports Media while also performing as a frontrunner for the Bisons all season. He first place in the Trevecca Michael Pretorius Invite to open his 2023 season with a 25:07.7. Finished 45th overall out of 138 runners and was the third Bison across the line at the Loyola Lakefront Invite with a then-personal best 8K time of 24:28.01.
 
Butcher followed up his performance in Chicago with another personal best at the XC23 Pre-Nationals in Virginia where he clocked a 24:19.7 to finish 69th overall and first out of the Bisons' runners in Charlottesville. He was the second of the Bisons' runners across the line at the ASUN Championships, claiming eighth place overall and earning a spot on the 2023 ASUN Second Team All-Conference with his time of 24:46.77.

The Bisons will be back in action Friday, Nov. 10th at the NCAA South Region Cross Country Championships, hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla. The women's race will begin at 7:30am CT and the men's race will begin at 8:30am CT.
