LYNCHBURG, Va. – Lipscomb's track & field teams opened the 2023 ASUN Indoor Conference Championships on Friday afternoon with three new program records, all-conference performances in four events, 20 top-10 finishes, and 11 Bisons qualifying for tomorrow's finals. The women's team ranks third out of 11 teams, while the Lipscomb men's team ranks seventh out of eight teams after Day 1.
Aislinn McElhaney paced the Bisons on the opening day by finishing 2nd overall in the women's long jump competition (5.87m), which earned her Third Team All-Conference honors.
Colbi Borland also garnered Third Team All-Conference honors by crossing 3rd in the women's 5K run (16:39.07).
Both of Lipscomb's DMR (Distance Meter Relay) teams earned Third Team All-Conference honors respectively. The team of
Mackenzie Barnett,
Jaden Mathews,
Abigail Horevay, and
Ellie Brewer posted a time of 11:45.70, while the team of
Austin Remick,
Dimitri Kemp,
Bing Hudson, and
Nick Regas sprinted to a time of 9:56.17. The men's DMR also broke the progam record in the event.
Kennedy Miller broke her previous program record in the women's 60m dash by posting a time of 7.58 to qualify for tomorrow's finals, while
Makayla Watson broke the program record in women's 200m dash by running a time of 24.66 to also qualify for tomorrow's finals.
Kiara Carter won the preliminary round of the women's 800m run (2:10.56) to qualify for tomorrow's finals, while
Braedon Palmer also won the preliminary round of the men's 1-mile run (4:04.59) to qualify.
Levi Streeval,
Brady Johnson, and
Demontae Wilson also qualified for tomorrow's finals in the men's 800m run (1:51.83), in the men's 1-mile run (4:07.26), and in the men's 400m dash (49.01) respectively.
Lydia Miller,
Aly Negovetich, and
Liza Corso all qualified for the finals of the women's 1-mile run after finishing 5th (4:50.87), 7th (4:51.00), and 8th (4:52.58) respectively.
Abigail Alvarado also qualified for the finals of the women's 400m dash (57.40) with a 7th-place finish.
Anna Richardson,
Ally Suyak, and
Franziska Decker all earned points for the Bisons by finishing within the top-8 of their respective events. Richardson finished 5th in the women's long jump (5.73m), while Suyak was 5th in the women's 5K run (16:56.70) and Decker finished 8th in the women's pentathlon (3301 points).
Dimitri Kemp also earned points by finishing 8th in the men's long jump (6.62m).
