Cross Country Women Claim Fourth in Chicago, Men Earn Eighth

CHICAGO, Ill. – Lipscomb's cross country teams traveled to the Windy City Friday morning to take part in the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational. The women's team claimed fourth place ahead of programs such as Gonzaga, Ohio State, and Michigan and the men's squad earned three personal bests and eighth place with a total of 209 points.
 
The women ran first Friday morning and the Herd broke well from the starting line. Lydia Miller led the Bisons across the line with a blazing 19.:59.79 across the line to finish fifth overall out of 139 total runners.
 
Next across the line was Kiara Carter with a personal best 20:17.45 to finish 17th overall, followed by freshman Harley Kletz in her collegiate debut with a 28th-place finish (20:29.21). Colbi Borland finished 30th with a time of 20:32.23 followed closely by Mackenzie Barnett and Ellie Brewer in 37th and 38th with personal best times of 20:38.99 and 20:39.38 respectively.
 
Abigail Horevay recorded the squad's fourth personal best of the meet with a 20:46.59 to finish 44th overall. Freshman Leonie Saurer made her collegiate debut for the Bisons with a 21:13.66 to finish 67th, followed by Mollie Longmire with a 21:49.74 to round out the women's squad's performance.
 
The men then took off at noon and shortly earned eighth place with 209 points and a trio of personal bests. Scott McKenzie crossed the finish line first for the Purple and Gold with a personal best time of 24:07.12 to finish 20th overall in the 8k race. He was followed across the line by Bryan Hernandez-Rios with a 24:21.82 and a 38th place finish.
 
Ben Butcher was the next to clock a personal best, following his last phenomenal performance at the Trevecca Michael Pretorius Invite, the Dacula, Ga. product clocked a time of 24:28.01 to finish 48th overall. Brady Johnson then crossed the line 51st with a 24:33.43 followed by James Schmidt with a  personal best 24:36.07 to finish 55th.
 
Daniel Winkelman and Levi Streeval were the next two Bisons across the line with times of 24:52.58 and 25:00.25 to finish 74th and 82nd overall. Bing Hudson rounded out the men's performance with a time of 21:49.74 to finish 133rd.

The Bisons will return to action on Friday, Oct. 13 at the Angel Mounds Invite in Evansville, Ind. and the Nuttycombe Invite in Madison, Wis.
