NASHVILLE - Lipscomb baseball clinched their 5th straight ASUN series of the season in a thrilling Sunday showdown against FGCU. The game was marked by two crucial multi-run homers, leading to a 7-6 victory for the Bisons.
FGCU scored the game's first run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly out to center field. The Eagles added three more in the next frame on an RBI groundout to third, a single to right field, and a single to left, which extended their lead to four.
After two scoreless frames to start, Trace Willhoite put Lipscomb on the board and cut the Bisons' deficit to one with a three-run home run in the bottom of the third, his 15th of the year.
FGCU got a run back in the fourth, but a grand slam from Alex Vergara, his 16th, put the Bisons in front 7-5. The Eagles made things interesting in the eighth, scoring a run that brought them within one and then advancing the tying run 90 feet from home plate, but Lipscomb's defense held strong to not allow any more damage.
In the ninth, the Eagles put the tying and go-ahead run on base, but another save effort from Collin Witzke got the Bisons out of the jam to secure the series in Nashville.
