NASHVILLE - Lipscomb baseball bounced back after their Friday series-opening loss to best Queens (8-22, 4-7 ASUN) in the middle game on Saturday, in a 10-3 decision. The Bisons hit three home runs and held the high-powered Royals offense to three runs on seven hits in the win.
Like game one, Lipscomb took the early advantage Saturday afternoon, with a run in the first on an RBI single to center field from Austin Kelly.
The Bisons then put a four spot on the board in the second, with the first two runs coming on a two-run blast from Kyle Hetherington, who got the start for the Bisons in left field. The homer was his first of the season and the third of his career at Lipscomb.
Two more runs came, with the final run coming on another RBI single from Kelly, his second of the day.
Queens got a run back, their first run of the game, on a solo home run in the third, but the Bisons responded with two more runs in the bottom half, on a solo homer to right field from Will Lee and an RBI double down the left field line from David Coppedge.
The Royals made things interesting with a two-spot in the fifth on two RBI singles, but Lipscomb held the Royals scoreless for the final four frames, due in large part to the Bisons bullpen. Collin Witzke, Joey Mitchell, and Evan Harmon tossed for a combined 4.2 innings to close out the game, allowing no runs with seven strikeouts to help the Bisons even the series.
They got some more insurance help from their offense, which added three more runs on the board in the eighth on a solo home run from Alex Vergara, his 11th of the year, which gave him back the team's home run lead. This was followed by a wild pitch that brought Mason Lundgrin home and then a double to centerfield in Adam Fallon's first at-bat Saturday.
