NASHVILLE, TN – Senior Mackenzie Barnett placed second overall in the Trevecca Opener on Sept. 7^th and was named the ASUN Cross Country Women's Runner of the Week.
 
Barnett ran a 17:51.9 in the 5k to match the first-place time in her first meet of the season. Her average mile pace was 5:44.7, running the first 1.6 miles in 8:44.5. Barnett's second-place performance led the Bisons to their win at the meet and placed her above 44 other athletes competing.
 
After Lipscomb women's cross country placed fifth of six teams at the Belmont Opener in their previous meet, Mackenzie's pace contributed a large role in the team's 18:07 average and a total time of 1:30.35, just under 11 minutes less than second-place Dalton State. On average, the Bisons' pace was over two minutes quicker than Dalton State and their spread was the second smallest with 1:05.5.
 
Barnett is running in her fourth season for the Bisons this year since joining the squad from high school in 2021. Last cross country season, Barnett earned a spot to run at the NCAA Division I South Region Cross Country Championship where she recorded a personal best in the 6k and finished 27^th overall.
 
Barnett is looking to end her cross country career with a bang as she and the rest of the Bisons compete in the Nuttycombe Invitational next on Sept. 27^th. Lipscomb will travel to Madison, WI for the meet where the "B" races will begin at 11:00 AM for women and 11:40 AM for men and the "A" races at 12:20 PM for women and 1:00 PM for men.
