WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After a stellar weekend at Auburn to start the month of October, the Lipscomb men's tennis doubles team of
Henrique Ushizima and
Facundo Perlov continued their success at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, hosted by Purdue University, over the weekend.
Ranked as the 16-seed at the event, the duo opened up the main draw with an 8-4 win over Filip Andeev/Ilie Cazac of Eastern Kentucky on Friday.
Saturday, Ushizima/Perlov advanced to the Round of 16 by knocking off Nikola Jovic / Henrik Villanger of Purdue, 8-6.
Sunday's first match of the day started with a showdown with the two-seed in the region in Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak of MTSU. Ranked as the 64th doubles team in Division I, Lipscomb forced a 7-point tiebreak. The Bisons used a 7-3 break to defeat MTSU and advance to the quarterfinals.
Next up, Ushizima and Perlov took on Chattanooga's Jakub Jupa and Cortland Grove. After using back-to-back tiebreak wins to reach the final eight, the UTC duo took down Lipscomb, 8-4, to advance to the semifinals. As of the timing of this release, Jupa and Grove will play in the main draw final on Tuesday after defeating Louisville in a 10-point break.
After winning all four matchups at Auburn last week, the Bison duo holds a 7-1 fall tournament record.
Also competing in the singles draws, Perlov participated in the Qualifier Draw, while Ushizima competed in the Main Draw.
Ushizima earned a win in a consolation draw, defeating Oliver Dao of Tennessee Tech, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (4).
