Ciocca Named ASUN Freshman of the Year; Szymczak Honored on All-Freshman Team

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Atlantic Sun Conference announced on Wednesday its postseason awards for the 2025 season. Giovanni Ciocca leads the way for the Lipscomb University men's tennis team by earning ASUN Freshman of the Year honors. 

Additionally, joining Ciocca on the All-Freshman Team is Oskar Szymczak.

Ciocca had a stellar year for the Bisons, going 12-9 record in spring singles matches, including a 5-3 mark in conference matches. With a World Tennis Number of 13.21, it marked the third-highest ranking among active freshmen. 

Holding a 16-13 singles record in 2024-25, his 16 wins are the third-most on the team. 

In doubles, he tallied an 8-10 doubles record, splitting time between the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. 

For Lipscomb, it is the first Freshman of the Year honor in program history.

The Milan, Italy native was also listed on the Second Team on the All-ASUN listings. 

For Szymczak, he recorded an 8-11 record at the top flight, playing the best of the best in the conference as a first-year collegiate athlete. In spring dual matches, he recorded a 9-12 record in singles. 

In doubles, he went 8-9 in spring matches and 12-14 overall. 

Lipscomb enters the 2025 ASUN Championship as the four-seed. After beating North Florida for the first time in program history last Saturday at home, the Bisons and the 5-seed Ospreys will rematch on the UNF courts Thursday morning at 9 a.m. EDT / 8 a.m. CDT from Jacksonville, Florida.
