Box Score 2 FLORENCE, AL – Despite the weather in Florence, Lipscomb softball competed in day one of its second ASUN series against North Alabama. North Alabama won the last matchup in the rubber match, leaving Lipscomb scoreless in two of their three meetings. Leading into the weekend, the Bisons sat fourth in the Gold Division with the Lions fifth.
LIPSCOMB 1, NORTH ALABAMA 7
The Lions got off to a hot start, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second. By the top of the third, the Bisons only had three hits and an error compared to the Lions' five hits and no errors. The Bisons sent
Courtney Sauer into the circle to close out the inning.
Lipscomb found their first run in the top of the third on a single from
Presley Rader. After going 2-2,
Alyssa Hastings crossed home plate to put the Bisons on the board. The Bisons allowed no hits in the bottom of the inning, trailing 1-4 entering the top of the fourth.
The Lions scored twice more in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-1 lead. The Bisons recorded two hits in the top of the sixth, leaving both runners on base before the Lions scored their seventh run of the afternoon. After forcing Lipscomb to go three up three down, North Alabama took win number one of the series.
Elle Smith batted 2-3 and
Alyssa Hastings went 2-4 with a run.
LIPSCOMB 5, NORTH ALABAMA 2
Game two was delayed an hour and forty-five minutes due to rain in the area. Nevertheless, the Bisons came out fired up after taking a loss in game one.
Ella Polk struck first to put the Bisons in the lead in the top of the second. Polk launched a homer single to left center and Lipscomb entered the bottom of the inning up 1-0.
Through three innings,
Laine Barefoot had yet to give up a hit. North Alabama took Lipscomb's lead personally and relieved their pitcher. The Bisons went three up three down in the top of the fourth before the Lions scored a two-run homer to center field for the lead.
The Bisons and Lions went back and forth throughout the next few innings, but neither team scored any more runs before the seventh.
Grace Cassarello earned a run off a bunt from
Mallory Ogle in the top of the inning to tie the game up at 2-2. The Lions entered a new pitcher to the circle once again.
The Bisons loaded the bases with two outs and a chance to win the game.
Macey Ogle stepped to the plate and doubled to left center for 3 RBI on runs from
Mallory Ogle,
Alyssa Hastings, and
Brenna Sherman. Lipscomb regained their lead up 5-2 and after allowing two hits in the bottom of the inning, the Bisons allowed no runs and took the win.
Ella Polk hit 1-3 in game two with a homer for a run and RBI.
Macey Ogle went 1-2, earning a walk and scoring a run.
Laine Barefoot had a fantastic game for Lipscomb, allowing just seven hits throughout seven innings, striking four batters out on 29 batters faced.
