MURFREESBORO, Tenn. / FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Lipscomb University Men's Tennis team opened the spring slate of the 2025-26 schedule with a split, falling to Middle Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee Southern on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED, MTSU
The Bisons struggled to get the rallies in their favor in doubles. No. 18 Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak gave the Blue Raiders the doubles point to start the match.
MTSU won all six points in singles play, despite
Filippo Verdese playing to a 6-7 (2), 5-7 defeat at the third flight.

HOW IT HAPPENED, UT SOUTHERN
The Firehawks opened the spring schedule ranked 20th in the NAIA National Poll.
Splitting the first two flights in doubles, it came down to the top flight in
Alex Vlahos and
Facundo Perlov, and they took down Quentin Ferron and Brock Hamilton, 6-4, to give the Bisons the 1-0 team lead.
After UTS claimed the first two singles points thanks to back-to-back retirements, Lipscomb won the final four points to clinch the match.
Filippo Verdese (9-5),
Henrique Ushizima (5-9) and
Oskar Szymczak (10-6) all earned wins to help the Bisons clinch the match.
The match rounded out with a three-set, come-from-behind victory for Perlov (9-9) at the top flight with a 6-7 (4), 6-4, 10-1 victory.

Lipscomb will next hit the courts on Sunday, Jan. 25 against Chattanooga for a 2:30 p.m. first serve from the Ensworth Tennis Center.
