NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University Men's Tennis team rolled to a 6-1 victory over Austin Peay State University in the team's home indoor opener from the Ensworth Tennis Center on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb secured the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Oskar Szymczak and Oliver Thoeny won the No. 3 flight, 6-2, while Filippo Verdese and Henrique Ushizima clinched the team point with a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. 

Ushizima (6-9) and Verdese (10-5) started singles play with wins to get Lipscomb out to a 3-0 lead. Ushizima took the dub on court four, 6-3, 6-1, while Verdese cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 2. 

The Biosns secured the match with a straight-set win by Thoeny (1-1) on court six, 6-1, 7-5 and Szymczak (11-6) rallied from a second set loss to take the No. 5 point, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0. 

With the match already clinched, Facundo Perlov (10-9) also avenged a second set defeat to win the top flight in a tight 10-point tiebreak, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8). 

HERD NOTES
Lipscomb improved to 16-7 since 2004 against Austin Peay with the victory on Saturday and have won the last four meetings. 

While these two teams are regular foes in the Atlantic Sun Conference, this match was not scheduled as a conference match, as the league will not play an ASUN schedule this season.

Lipscomb will next hit the courts on Sunday, Jan. 25 against UAB for a 10:30 a.m. first serve from the Ensworth Tennis Center.
