Bottom of Singles Lineup Lifts Men's Tennis to Win over Xavier

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University Men's Tennis team wrapped up three straight days of competition with a 4-3 victory over Xavier University to conclude the home stand, Saturday from the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.

Final Score: Lipscomb 4, Xavier 3
Location: Nashville, Tennessee (Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center)
Records: Lipscomb (7-6), Xavier (5-11)

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a slow start for the home squad, as they saw themselves in an early 1-0 hole after the Musketeers took the doubles point.

However, the Bisons recovered in singles, as the bottom two in the lineup flipped the lead. Alex Vlahos picked up his fifth win of the season, routing Bode Campbell 6-1, 6-2, on court five.

Later, Oliver Thoeny (5-6) got back in the win column with his dub on court six, dropping Lukas Grossman 6-0, 6-4 to give the Bisons the 2-1 team lead.

Filippo Verdese (14-10) got back to .500 on the spring campaign after taking the win on court two. No 6-6 in dual matches, he won 6-2, 6-2 versus Max Pettingell to put Lipscomb one win away from clinching.

After Xavier made it a 3-2 score with a victory from court three, Oskar Szymczak (17-10) picked up his eighth spring win to match the team high with a 7-5, 6-3 result over Andre Spruck to clinch the match for the home squad.

In the fourth-ever meeting between the two teams, dating back to 2011, the Bisons picked up their first win over the Musketeers on Saturday.

UP NEXT
After three straight at home, the Bisons will now play three away from Nashville. The trip starts at No. 67 Samford on Wednesday afternoon.
