Desi Ammons Named Assistant Baseball Coach

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb University is pleased to announce the hiring of Desi Ammons as the new assistant baseball coach.
A native of Hohenwald, Tennessee, Ammons joins the Bisons with a distinguished background in collegiate baseball, bringing years of experience and a proven track record of success in player development and program leadership.
Lipscomb's Head Baseball Coach Jeff Forehand expressed his enthusiasm about the new addition to the team, stating, "Coach Ammons brings a wealth of knowledge to our program. As a former head coach running his own program, he will bring immediate impact both on the field and on the recruiting front. Coach Ammons was a slam dunk choice for Lipscomb."
Desi Ammons arrives at Lipscomb following a notable tenure at Columbia State Community College, where he served in various coaching capacities from 2017 to 2026. Ammons served as head baseball coach from 2024 to 2026, after serving as Co-Head Coach in 2023 and Assistant Coach from 2017 to 2022.
During his time at Columbia State, Ammons was instrumental in developing players and managing the program's operations, earning the 2024 Tennessee Community College Athletic Association Coach of the Year.
Boasting a 95-61 head coaching record, he has coached 14 all-conference selections during his time as the skipper of the Chargers, including current Lipscomb student-athlete Cole O'Brien in 2024.
Before embarking on his coaching career, Ammons played collegiate baseball at Belmont University during the 2015 and 2016 seasons, primarily as a catcher. He also played junior college baseball for the Chargers in the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
Ammons graduated from Belmont University in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in exercise science. He also holds an Associate of Science degree from Columbia State.
With Ammons joining the coaching staff, Lipscomb's baseball program anticipates continuing its commitment to excellence in collegiate athletics. The Bisons won their fourth ASUN Tournament Championship this past season and qualified for an NCAA Regional.
