NASHVILLE – Order restored…in more ways than one for the Lipscomb University (6-3) Volleyball Team. In one sense, the Bisons bounced back after Friday's loss to Vanderbilt and picked up the 3-1 set win (25-20, 18-25, 25-17, 25-23) over Belmont University (3-8) on Saturday night inside the Curb Event Center.

On the other hand, after falling to the Bruins in last year's matchup, the Bisons get back to their winning ways, as they have taken the 12th matchup in the last 13 times and 20 of the last 22.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons built an early 6-2 lead in the opening set with kills from Kelsey Schenck, Ella Durham and Anna Claire Brown, a Durham ace, and a Brooklyn Fuchs block assist.

The Bruins worked back from a 17-14 deficit, tying the set at 17-17 and moving ahead 18-17 on consecutive service aces by Brenna Kauffeld before the Bisons evened it at 18-18. After Connie Kofoed put the Bruins back in front 19-18, the Bisons scored the next six points, with Lexi Guinn serving an ace and Sydney Strenger and Durham combining for four kills in the stretch to reach 24-19.

The Bruins stopped the run with a service error by the Bisons, but Durham finished the set with a kill for a 25-20 Bisons win.

Belmont scored four straight points to move ahead 8-3 in the second set, but Strenger put down consecutive kills and Brown followed with a service ace to pull LUV within 8-6. Guinn and Strenger kept the Bisons close through a 10-9 score before the Bruins created separation, using kills from Lucy Kay, Brenna Kauffeld, Connie Kofoed and Alivia Keegan along with Bisons errors to reach 18-12.

Guinn's kill, a Bruins attack error, and a Schenck kill gave the Bisons three of four points and narrowed the margin to 19-16, but the Bruins reached set point at 24-18 on a block by Sydnee Nelson and Kay and closed the set 25-18 on Kauffeld's kill.

In set three, after the Bruins built a 6-4 lead, the Bisons scored five of the next six points, using a Guinn-Strenger block and kills from Schenck and Durham to move ahead 9-7.

The Bruins came back for an 11-10 edge on Alivia Keegan's ace and kill, but Durham answered with consecutive kills and Brown added another as the Bisons pushed back in front 15-12.

When the Bruins cut the margin to 15-14 on Brenna Kauffeld's kill, the Bisons took seven of the next eight points, including kills from Brown, Strenger and Guinn plus a Guinn ace, to stretch the lead to 22-15. Durham added two late kills, and a Fuchs-Schenck block helped get the Bisons to set point before Durham closed the set at 25-17.

The Bisons moved ahead 8-4 in the fourth set on a block by Durham after early kills from Durham, Guinn and Strenger helped create separation.

The Bruins pulled even at 9-9, but the Bisons answered with a Fuchs block, another Durham kill, and a Brown kill during a stretch that pushed the lead back to 16-12. After the Bruins got within 17-15, Kenzie Kucks had a kill, Strenger served an ace, and Schenck followed with a kill to move the Bisons in front 20-15.

The Bisons reached 24-20 on a Strenger block, and after the Bruins scored the next three points, a net fault by Lucy Kay that was confirmed via replay closed the set for the Bisons, 25-23, to win the 43rd edition of the Battle of the Boulevard.

HERD NOTES
LUV's five blocks in set one marked the most in the opening frame this season and matched the most in any set this season.

Lipscomb takes over the all-time series lead in the Battle of the Boulevard, as they go to 22-21 over Belmont.

It's the program's eighth win inside the Curb Event Center, and they earned their sixth straight dub on Belmont's campus.

KEY STATISTICS
Ella Durham picked up a match-high 18 kills on a .310 swing percentage and added a career-high 16 digs in the victory.

Sydney Strenger and Lexi Guinn each had 13 kills. For Guinn, it was a career-high in kills and added career-bests in digs (8) and blocks (5).

Strenger also had five stops at the net, as the Bisons had a season-high 11 blocks in the win.

Kenzie Kucks had 16 digs, while Kelsey Schenck added 45 assists and 11 digs.

LUV will stay in Nashville for one more match, but it'll be inside the friendly confines of Allen Arena, as they take on Tennessee Tech on Tuesday night at 5 p.m. to finish up non-conference play.
