NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University Volleyball team will enter the Atlantic Sun Conference schedule with a 7-3 overall record after knocking off Tennessee Technological University (4-8) in four sets, 25-20, 21-25, 25-16, 27-25) to wrap up the non-conference schedule on Tuesday night inside Allen Arena.

With the win, LUV's 7-3 start matches the program's second-best start in its Division I era, matching the 2009, 2013 and 2016 seasons. The Bisons went on to win the ASUN Championship and qualify for the NCAA Tournament in the 2009 and 2016 campaigns.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons opened the first set by trading points with the Golden Eagles, getting early kills from Brooklyn Fuchs, Lexi Guinn, Sydney Strenger and Ella Durham as the teams moved through a 12-12 tie.

From there, kills by Strenger and Durham around Guinn's ace pushed the Bisons to 15-12, and Fuchs added consecutive kills to help stretch the lead to 18-14.

The Bisons later reached 23-16 on a Guinn kill and two TTU attack errors, but the Golden Eagles answered with three straight points to close the gap to 23-19. After a TTU service error put the Bisons at set point, Alayna Pierce kept the set alive with a kill before Guinn finished the 25-20 set with a kill from Makenna Kirlin.

Tennessee Tech scored the first four points of the second set behind an Audrey Berkebile kill and two Berkebile service aces, and Tuva Falk's ace later put the Bisons behind 11-5.

The Bisons worked back into the set with kills from Strenger and Fuchs, a Guinn-Strenger block and two TTU attack errors, cutting the margin to 15-13. The Golden Eagles answered with the next four points to move ahead 19-13, but the Bisons again narrowed the set as Strenger, Durham, Kirlin and Fuchs all recorded kills to make it 20-18.

Tennessee Tech reached set point at 24-19, and after the Bisons got two points back on Golden Eagles attack errors, Alayna Pierce closed the set with a kill for a 25-21 TTU win.

LUV built an 8-4 lead in the third set with kills from Kelsey Schenck, Durham and Anna Claire Brown, along with a block by Schenck and Strenger.

After TTU stayed within 11-8, the Bisons moved ahead 15-9 behind a Strenger kill, a Kirlin ace, a Schenck kill and a Guinn ace. The Golden Eagles cut the margin to 15-13 with two kills by Alayna Pierce, an Ella Watford ace and a Bisons attack error, but the Bisons answered with seven straight points, including six with Strenger serving, to go up 22-13.

Durham later put the Bisons at set point with a kill, and Fuchs finished the 25-16 set with a kill from Schenck.

In set four, the Bisons erased a 3-0 deficit with seven straight points, moving ahead 7-3 behind a Kirlin service ace, kills from Guinn and Strenger and a string of TTU attack errors.

The Golden Eagles worked back to tie the set at 14-14, but the Bisons answered with kills by Strenger and Guinn during a three-point push to go back in front 17-14.

The set tightened again late, with TTU taking a 24-23 lead before a Morgan Petelin bad set and another Strenger kill put the Bisons back ahead 25-24. After the Golden Eagles tied it at 25-25, Strenger put down one more kill and an Alayna Pierce attack error gave the Bisons the set, 27-25.

KEY STATISTICS
For the ninth time in the first 10 matches of the season, Ella Durham led the Bisons with 13 kills. She has been the leading attacker for six straight matches.

The middle blockers continued to shine for the Bisons, as both Sydney Strenger and Brooklyn Fuchs each had 12 kills. The duo posted a combined .513 attack percentage with five errors on 37 swings.

Strenger totaled 14.5 points thanks to a service ace and three assisted blocks.

Kenzie Kucks paced the defense with 11 digs, while Allison Barrick recorded a career-high nine.
