LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the fifth straight year, the Lipscomb University Volleyball team (7-4, 0-1) started conference play on the road, as the Bisons dropped a three-set contest with Bellarmine University (7-5, 1-0) on Saturday afternoon from Knights Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Kills from Sydney Strenger, Kelsey Schenck and Ella Durham, along with a Lexi Guinn/Strenger block, helped the Bisons take a 6-1 lead in the opening set.

The Knights cut the margin to 10-9 behind a Mary Herman ace and a Mady Yaden kill, but the Bisons pushed back to 13-9 on a Brooklyn Fuchs kill, a Knights attack error and an Anna Claire Brown kill. After the Bisons led 15-12 on a Strenger kill, the Knights scored five straight, tying the set at 15-15 on an Abby Julius ace and moving in front 17-15 on consecutive Bisons attack errors.

The Knights later turned a 19-17 edge into a 22-17 lead, and although Fuchs and Strenger kills helped the Bisons get back to 23-20, the Knights reached set point on an attack error and closed the set 25-20 with a Maddie Carnes ace.

The Knights scored the first six points of the second set on Maddie Carnes' serve, including two Mya White kills and two service aces, and later pushed the margin to 12-2.

The Bisons got kills from Durham, Guinn and Brown as they worked back into sideouts, but the Knights kept control and reached 22-12. Madyson McCarthy's kill started a 6-0 Bisons run that also included two Strenger-Schenck blocks, a McCarthy ace and a Durham kill to make it 22-18.

The Knights stopped the run with a Mary Herman kill, and after Durham answered once for the Bisons, the Knights took the final two points to close the set 25-19.

After the Knights moved ahead 3-1, the Bisons put together five straight points behind three Strenger service aces to take a 6-3 lead.

The Knights came back with four consecutive points to go in front 8-7, and the set continued to trade swings until Makenna Kirlin's ace put the Bisons up 13-11. The Knights later erased a 14-12 deficit and led 15-14 on Abbie Lyttle's ace, but the Bisons answered with kills from Strenger, Guinn and Schenck and a block by Fuchs and Schenck to move ahead 18-15.

Brown supplied kills for 20-18 and 21-20 leads and another to tie it at 22-22, but the Knights reached set point at 24-23 on a Mady Yaden kill and closed the set 25-23 on a Bisons attack error.

KEY STATISTICS
Sydney Strenger led the Bisons with 12.5 points on eight kills, three aces and three block assists.

Ella Durham totaled 11 digs and 10 kills, while Madyson McCarthy had a service ace to go with 11 digs.

Kelsey Schenck totaled 30 assists and added 11 digs and three block assists.
