NASHVILLE – For the 11th time in Lipscomb University Volleyball's Division I history, they hosted a ranked team inside Allen Arena. On Thursday evening, it was the No. 16 University of Kansas, and the Jayhawks (1-2), despite some great efforts by the Bisons (2-1), ultimately took the match in four sets (25-18, 25-17, 20-25, 25-16).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons got out to a slow start, as the Jayhawks, leading 9-6, used a 10-1 run with one sideout during the run to lead 19-6.

On the next rally, Anna Claire Brown struck from the right side to earn the sideout. However, Kansas decided to challenge the call if it went out of bounds. The challenge was unsuccessful, sparking a 7-0 rally for the Bisons.

Back-to-back attack errors by the Jayhawks and kills from Brown and Ella Durham made it a 19-13 deficit.

Later, a Sydney Strenger and Kelsey Schenck block got the score to 23-18 in favor of the Jayhawks, but back-to-back points by the visitors earned them the opening set win.

Despite the setback, LUV had the edge going into the second set. Between seven ties and four lead changes, the Bisons had a 14-12 lead after setter dumps by Schenck.

Needing one more point to get to the technical timeout, KU rallied to win the next three and go on an 11-0 run en route to taking the second frame by a 25-17 score.

After spiking 10 kills in set two and digging into an early hole, 4-1, in set three, LUV found its groove. Kills by Lexi Guinn and Durham, followed by a service ace by Kenzie Kucks, gave the Bisons the 9-8 lead.

Tied at 14, spikes from Brown and Schenck sparked a 6-3 run to take a 20-17 lead. Despite a late effort by the Jayhawks, the Bisons were able to force a fourth set after a service error and a bad set to give them the 25-20 victory.

In set number four, there was a lot of movement with nine ties and three changes. However, tied at 10, the Jayhawks rallied with a 7-1 run to take a 17-11 lead and went on to defeat the Bisons 25-16, winning in four sets.

KEY STATISTICS
The Jayhawks committed 13 service errors on the night, matching a season-high for an opponent, and it is the most since last season's 16 against Vanderbilt.

Ella Durham improved her season-high in kills to 17 in the loss and added five digs.

In her first appearance of 2026, Anna Claire Brown totaled 10.5 points thanks to nine kills and two blocks.

Kelsey Schenck recorded her third straight double-double with 30 assists and 13 digs, while Kenzie Kucks and Makenna Kirlin had 10 digs each.

The LUV Invitational continues when Florida State and Kansas meet up in Allen Arena for a 3 p.m. Friday afternoon matinee. The Bisons will wrap up the invite with the Seminoles on Saturday night at 6 p.m.
