Lady Bisons will not play in St. Louis this weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No Ted Drewes frozen custard. No St. Louis-style pork ribs. No views of the  Mississippi River from the arch.

The Billiken Spring Tournament, hosted by the University of St. Louis, has been canceled this weekend due to concerns over the coronavirus.

The Lady Bisons were scheduled to play five games there this weekend.

The only Lipscomb softball players headed to Missouri will be sisters Olivia and Peyton Ward who are from Winfield.

“We are hanging tight and waiting to see what is going to happen,” Lipscomb coach Kristin Ryman said. “Spring break starts Friday. We decided it was best to let the girls go home for the weekend.”

The Lady Bisons are scheduled to play Austin Peay Wednesday and open the ASUN Conference portion of the season at North Florida next weekend.

If Austin Peay and North Florida decide not to  host games, then the Lady Bisons will spend the week at home. If games will be played, they will return to  campus for practice Monday.

“Either way, it is a little weird,” Ryman said. “There are people in the United States and across the world canceling events.

“There is an eerie feeling of what is going to happen next. None of us can really control it.”

The ASUN has been meeting with athletics directors and school presidents. Ryman expects to hear more Friday about what may be in store for this season.

“There are a lot of moving parts and a lot of different layers,” Ryman said. “Right now, we are in a little bit of a holding pattern. There is not much we can do except wait and see what is going  to happen.

“This is unprecedented for us. We are right there with our players. I hate it for our players, but I really hate it for our seniors not knowing if they are going to finish out the season. It is a hard place to be.”
