Pair of Lady Bisons named to ASUN women's tennis All-Decade Team

ATLANTA - The ASUN Conference announced the Women's Tennis 2011-20 All-Decade Team as 22 student-athletes were named to the list across eight programs. North Florida led the way with seven student-athletes named to the All-Decade Team followed by three apiece from FGCU, Kennesaw State and Stetson.

Over the past 10 years, two programs have captured ASUN Championship titles in North Florida (8) and ETSU (2) while the Ospreys both won a conference-high four ASUN Regular Season crowns over the past decade. ETSU and FGCU have a pair of regular-season crowns, while Liberty collected one. Eight different student-athletes from five different institutions have earned the Player of the Year honor between 2011 and 2020. 

To be named to the All-Decade Team an individual must have competed for at least two years in the decade as an ASUN student-athlete. Individuals that obtained one of the following criteria were named to the team; three First Team All-Conference selections (Singles), four All-Conference selections (Singles) or multiple Scholar-Athlete/Player of the Year honors. Individuals that obtained at least two of the following criteria were also named to the team; Player/Freshman/Scholar-Athlete of the Year or three All-Conference selections (Singles).


2011-20 Women's Tennis All-Decade Team (listed in alphabetical order by last name)

Julia Ascua, FGCU (2016-19)
- The 2019 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a three-time First Team All-Conference team selection, Ascua helped the Eagles to the ASUN Championship Final in three of her four seasons in Fort Myers. During her career, she earned three Player of the Week honors, three nods to the All-Academic Team (2017-19) and was a member of the 2016 All-Freshmen Team.

Alexandra Apostu, Kennesaw State (2011-14)
- Apostu was a First-Team All-Conference member three times (2012-14) and made the All-Academic Team twice (2012-13) while a member of the Owls' squad. She was also part of the Second Team (Doubles) All-Conference lineup in 2014. During her first season at Kennesaw State, she made the All-Freshmen Team and helped her team set the KSU program record for single-season victories with 18.

Lorena Aviles, North Florida (2012-13)
- Both seasons with the Ospreys resulted in postseason honors for Aviles including the 2013 Player of the Year award as UNF captured its second of back-to-back league titles. She was a First Team All-Conference selection in 2012 and 2013 and was named Player of the Week twice in her career. The 2012 Ospreys earned the program's most wins in an undefeated conference season going 9-0.

Aline Berkenbrock, North Florida (2009-12)
- The ASUN's Player of the Year in 2012, Berkenbrock also earned the award during the 2010 season and was a First Team All-Conference member in each of her four years with UNF. She was the 2009 Freshman of the Year and her six Player of the Week honors, five of which came during this decade, are an Osprey program record.

Diana Bukajeva, Stetson (2012-14)
- Bukajeva was the conference Player of the Year in 2014 and led Stetson to an appearance in the final of the ASUN Championship. She was a First Team All-Conference selection in 2014, Second Team in 2012 and 2013 and earned a spot on the All-Academic Team twice (2013-14). She tops the Hatters all-time list with five ASUN Player of the Week selections.

Eve Castaing, Jacksonville (2010-11)
- In 2011, Castaing earned the ASUN Player of the Year honor and became the third Dolphin to secure the award. Along with her First Team nod in 2011, she also earned the same distinction during Jacksonville's 2010 campaign.

Lyn Yee Choo, ETSU (2012-16)
- Choo was named both the Freshman and Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the conclusion of the 2013 season when ETSU advanced to the ASUN Championship Final. In both the 2013 and 2014 seasons, she was a member of the All-Conference First Team and the All-Academic Team as well as making the All-Freshmen Team in 2013.

Danielle Day, North Florida (2010-12)
- A three-time All-Conference First Team selection, Day was a member of two ASUN Championship squads while a member of the Ospreys squad. She was also a member of the All-Conference Second Team Doubles teams in 2011 and 2012 while earning a Second Team Singles nod in 2010.

Viktoriya Dzyuba, Lipscomb (2017-19)
- Dzyuba is the only member of the All-Decade Team to be named Player of the Year twice this decade by earning the honor in 2017 and 2019. Each of her seasons as a Bison resulted in a First Team All-Conference selection along with making the All-Academic Team twice (2018-19). She set a Lipscomb program record with five ASUN Player of the Week awards.

Rafaela Gomez, North Florida (2016-19)
- A two-time First Team selection to the All-Conference lineup, Gomez was a member of four consecutive ASUN Championship wins by the Ospreys. She was named to the All-Academic Team in 2019 and was a member of the All-Freshmen Team in 2016. She earned four Player of the Week honors during her career at UNF.

Luise Intert, North Florida (2015-18)
- Intert was the Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2018 and is the only Osprey in ASUN history to earn the award. She is also the only Osprey to be selected to the All-Academic Team three times (2016-18) and was a two-time member of the All-Conference First Team (2016, 18). Each of her four years at UNF ended with the team winning the conference title.

Paula Jaime, ETSU (2009-12)
- The 2012 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Jaime was a member of two ASUN Championship squads from ETSU during her career. She earned First Team All-Conference honors in 2010 and 2012 as well as being a Second Team selection and a member of the All-Freshmen Team in 2009. She secured three Player of the Week awards while competing for the Bucs.

Arijana Korac, Stetson (2015-18)
- Korac earned nods to the All-Conference First Team in both the 2017 and 2018 seasons helping Stetson earn an ASUN Championship Final appearance in the latter. She was a Second Team selection in 2015 and was also chosen to be part of the All-Freshmen Team. She added two Player of the Week awards to her accolades as a Hatter.

Maja Ornberg, FGCU (2017-pres.)
- Ornberg's career in Fort Myers got off to an amazing start with her being named Freshman of the Year in 2017 then Player of the Year in 2018. She has been a member of the All-Conference First Team in three of her four seasons as an Eagle adding selections to the All-Freshmen Team in 2017 and the All-Academic Team in 2019. 

Kateryna Popova, Lipscomb (2018-pres.)
- The 2018 Freshman of the Year, Popova has an All-Freshmen Team and two First Team All-Conference selections on her list of accolades as a Bison. In 2018, she was also chosen as a member of the All-Conference Second Team Doubles honorees and has earned a Player of the Week award.

Carolina de los Santos, Stetson (2010-11)
- de los Santos earned the Freshman of the Year honor in 2010 after helping the Hatters finish the season with a 7-3 record in conference play. She earned All-Conference honors in both 2010 and 2011 and added two Player of the Week awards during her career.

Vera Shkundina, Kennesaw State (2009-12)
- Shkundina is one of three Owls to be selected to the All-Conference First Team earning the honor in 2009, 2011 and 2012. She added a Second Team selection 2010 and was also part of the 2009 All-Freshmen Team. Her total of five ASUN Player of the Week awards ranks first in program history for Kennesaw State.

Breana Stampfli, FGCU (2014-17)
- The 2014 Freshman of the Year and a two-time First Team selection to the All-Conference squad, Stampfli made three-straight appearances in the finals of the ASUN Championship with the Eagles from 2015-17. She added two Player of the Week honors while at FGCU along with a Second Team All-Conference nod in 2014.

Virginie Stein, Kennesaw State (2012-15)
- Stein had an amazing career with the Owls, beginning with being named the 2012 Freshman of the Year and finishing up as the 2015 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She is the only student-athlete in KSU's program history to earn four selections to the ASUN All-Conference First Team and the only to make the All-Academic Team three times.

Isabel von Stryk, USC Upstate (2012-15)
- von Stryk was named a First Team All-Conference selection in 2014 and earned the distinction again in 2015 as well as being a member of the All-Academic Team. Her first season at USC Upstate saw her make the All-Conference Second Team and the All-Freshman squad. She also added a Player of the Week honor during her career.

Michelle Valdez, North Florida (2014-17)
- A three-time member of the All-Conference First Team, Valdez earned the honor in 2015-17 after being a member of the 2014 All-Freshmen Team. She secured three Player of the Week honors while a member of UNF's squad and won consecutive ASUN Championships with the Ospreys during her final three seasons.

Simona Weymar, North Florida (2011-14)
- Weyman earned two selections apiece to the All-Conference First Team (2013-14) and the All-Academic Team (2012-13) during her career with UNF. She was also a member of the 2011 All-Freshmen lineup and was honored twice as Player of the Week while a member of the Ospreys team.
