MOBILE, Ala. – After making an 8-hour trip to Louisiana last weekend to sit in a hotel and play no games in what was supposed to be opening weekend for the Lipscomb softball team, the Bisons are back on the road and will finally see the diamond for their first action of 2021.

The Bisons made the trek to Mobile, Alabama for five games in the Jaguar Classic hosted by South Alabama. They will be joined by Murray State and Butler in the field.

Live stats will be available for all five contests, while Sunday's final game against South Alabama will be streamed on ESPN+ at 12:30 p.m.

Lipscomb is scheduled for two games Friday against Butler (1 p.m.) and USA (6 p.m.), and two games on Saturday as well vs. Murray State (10:30 a.m.) and Butler (1 p.m.).

HERD NOTESÂ
- Lipscomb won its 3rd ASUN regular season title in 2019 after going 42-15-1 overall and 16-4 in league play. Last season when COVID struck, the Bisons were 12-10 with wins over Duke and North Carolina.
- The Bisons are looking for their 3rd ASUN Tournament title in 20201, and joins Stetson as the only other repeat champion among all current ASUN programs.
- There are a few gaps to fill this season with the departures of shortstop Peyton Ward, second baseman Hannah DeVault and pitchers Megan Gray and Chloe Yeager.
- Amy Vetula, a preseason All-ASUN selection, will move from center field to shortstop this season. She started all 22 games in 2020 and led the team with 30 total bases, 27 hits and 17 runs scored.
- Sophomore Presley Leebrick is coming off an impressive freshman campaign where she paced the team with a .350 batting clip and a .435 on-base percentage. She was 21-of-60 with four doubles, one homer, seven RBI, eight runs, nine walks and three stolen bases.
- Sophomore Kamrie Rich led all Bisons last season with 18 RBI and three home runs.
- Lipscomb lost seven of its 12 wins in the circle from last season with Megan Gray's departure. Junior Katie Turner returns this season after going 5-1 with a 2.80 ERA in 35.0 innings. Â She struck out 29 and walked 17, but won't pitch until sometime in March.
- Emily Yakubowski is back for her sophomore season. Adding experience to the pitching staff are graduate transfers Maddie Siemer from Appalachian State and Breana Burke from UNLV. Freshman Laine Barefoot is also part of the mix in the circle.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
South Alabama:Â
- USAÂ (1-2) enters the weekend after opening the season over the weekend at the Red & Black Showcase hosted by Georgia.
- The Jaguars split a doubleheader with the 14th-ranked Bulldogs on Friday, falling 8-3, before bouncing back to take game two, 9-8.
- South Alabama held a one-run lead over Virginia heading into the sixth on Saturday, but the Cavaliers erupted for six runs.
- Belle Wolfenden (.556) had multi-hit outings in each of the Jags' last two games, and paced the club with five RBI, while reaching base safely eight times – five hits and three walks – and a 3-run homer. She was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.
- The Jaguars hold a 7-0 advantage in the all-time series with the Bisons. They defeated Lipscomb 8-5 at the 2019 Jaguar Classic in the last season meeting.
Murray State:

Butler:
- The Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 1-4 record, following the Doc Halverson UNI-Dome Classic hosted by Northern Iowa to start the season. The Bulldogs defeated Omaha in the first game of the event.
- 2019 All-BIG EAST selection Lauren Fey started off the season strong last weekend, leading the team with a .533 batting clip, featuring eight hits and four walks. Fey picked up from last season where she hit a team-best .421 during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.
- Karli Ricketts has been a spark for Butler so far this season. The junior picked up the win over Omaha, striking out 10 in that start. She leads the Bulldogs pitching staff with 17 strikeouts in 12 innings. At the plate, she has one home run, one double, and leads the team with six RBIs.
- Sophomore Mallory McMahon's first collegiate hit was a pinch-hit, late-inning solo home run that brought the Bulldogs within one in the eventual loss to Northern Iowa.
- Alyssa Graves has a team-best 2.74 ERA at this early stage in the season, having made appearances in three of the team's five games.
- The Bison lead the all-time series with the Bulldogs, 4-1. The last time the two sides met was in 2015 also in Mobile, splitting two games. Lipscomb outscored Butler 11-4 in the four wins.

IF/OF | Amy Vetula:Â Vetula started in all 22 of the Bisons games in 2020 and led the team with 30 total bases, 27 hits and 17 runs scored. She finished second on the squad with a .342 batting average and held a .982 fielding percentage with 48 putouts.
P/IF | Katie Turner:Â A member of the 2019 All-Freshman Team, Turner posted a 5-1 record with a 2.95 ERA with five starts in the circle. She pitched three complete games with one shutout while producing four doubles and three RBI with her 13 appearances in the field.
OF | Presley Leebrick:Â Leebrick notched 21 hits in 60 at-bats last season for the Bisons. She had a team-best .350 batting average and .435 on-base percentage as well as eight runs and seven RBI.
