Jones, Buxton earn ASUN Weekly Awards

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb Baseball earned its first ASUN Conference Player of the week and Pitcher of the Week awards for the 2021 season the league announced Monday.
Ty Jones was named Player of the Week while Ike Buxton was named Pitcher of the Week. This is the first-career Player and Pitcher of the week award for both Jones and Buxton.
Sophomore outfielder Jones helped guide the Bisons to a 3-1 weekend, defeating Northern Kentucky twice on Saturday and Creighton on Sunday.
At the plate, he went 8-for-14 for a batting average of .571. He tallied three doubles, a home run and six RBI for a slugging percentage of 1.00.
In addition to his contributions on the offensive end, Jones had a perfect fielding percentage with six putouts.
On the defensive end, Buxton was a stalwart on the mound this week picking up two wins in as many appearances. In his two starts, he threw 9.0 complete innings allowing no earned runs.
He made quick work of his opponents with 10 strikeouts and holding them to a .161 batting average while allowing just five hits.
Lipscomb will return to action Tuesday as they travel to Austin Peay for a midweek matchup. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
