Men's Tennis Adds Graduate Transfer Sam Fischer

NASHVILLE – Head men's tennis coach Geoff Hernandez has signed graduate transfer Sam Fischer from the University of Alabama.

Fischer, a Brentwood native, will be joining the Bisons in the 2021-22 season and will be eligible to play immediately.

"Having Sam come back to Nashville to play his fifth year is so exciting," Hernandez said. "We have a relationship that goes way back so it feels right for him to end his tennis chapter in front of his friends and family.

"Sam did a lot of great things at Alabama, both on and off the court. The program had a lot of success and great leadership from coach Hussack. I think with a new opportunity to use what he learned and be a leader as a Bison will be great. We couldn't be more excited."

In his time with the Crimson Tide, Fischer compiled a 17-24 overall record in singles and a 35-17 mark in doubles. His best season came in 2019-20 as a junior where he racked up 23 total wins, finishing 11-3 in singles and 12-6 in doubles.

In 2021 as a senior, Fischer is currently 8-1 across doubles, including a 4-1 ledger at the top position.

Academically, he is a 2-time ITA Scholar-Athlete (2018 and 2019), the 2020-21 SAAC President, the 2019 SAAC Vice President and earned selections to the SEC Men's Tennis Community Service Teams in 2019 and 2020. He is working towards a degree in biomolecular sciences.

Prior to Alabama, Fischer prepped at Brentwood High School where he was ranked as high as No. 62 in the USTA Boys 18s national singles rankings according to tennisrecruiting.net.

He was also named the Tennessee Individual State Champion, a 2-time USTA Qualifier Champion in both singles and doubles, and was an 8-time representative of Team Tennessee at the Junior Southern Cup. In 2015 he was crowned the USTA Player of the Year and was named the WILLCO Award Winner for the best tennis student-athlete. He chose to attend Alabama over Tennessee, Auburn and Nebraska.
