NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Lipscomb coach Kristin Ryman has said all season her team needs to continue to be challenged.

That will certainly be the case this weekend.

Originally scheduled to play North Alabama this weekend on the road, Lipscomb is back home to face Liberty University in a crucial ASUN series at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium.

Saturday's doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. Sunday's single game begins at noon.

"Every single game we walk away feeling like we grew in some area," Ryman said. "And in some games, it has been a painful growth.

"It stinks at times. But there are moments when you have to go through things like that to come out better on the other side."

The series, which was canceled once this season due to COVID-19 concerns, was rescheduled for this weekend. The change was made by the conference as the opponents scheduled for both Lipscomb and Liberty are dealing with COVID issues.

The Lady Bisons are 14-13, 3-4 in the ASUN. Liberty is 26-12 overall, 7-2 in the ASUN. The Flames bring a five-game winning streak into the series.

Amy Vetula leads Lipscomb with a .352 batting average from her lead-off spot. She also has a team-leading 13 stolen bases.

Kamrie Rich is hitting .349.

Caitlin Turner with a .298 average, and Presley Leebrick batting .292, round out the top four.

Olivia Ward leads with 16 runs batted in.

Breana Burke (10-5) has been the mainstay of the pitching staff. She is tied for third in wins in the ASUN and fifth in the conference with a 2.14 earned run average.

Maddie Siemer is 2-2. Her 2.12 ERA is tied for third in the ASUN.

Liberty is led in hitting by Kara Canetto with a .400 average.

Amber Bishop-Riley is batting .377 and is tied for the ASUN lead in home runs with 12. She also has 33 RBI.

Autumn Bishop is hitting .347 with nine home runs.

"Liberty is good top to bottom and off the bench too," Ryman said. "They do so many good things in every facet.

"With the Bishop twins and Canetto they have three really big threats at the top of the order. They hit the ball where it is pitched. They are disciplined. Our goal is to contain those three as best we can, but they have a lot of different weapons."

Liberty leads the conference in batting average (.297), home runs (39) and RBI (190).

In the circle, left-hander Emily Kirby is 7-4 with a 2.44 ERA. She has struck out 86 batters in 71.2 innings.

Karlie Keeney is 9-4 with a 2.81 ERA.

"Liberty is picked to win the conference this year," Ryman said. "On the field they have shown that ability.

"Top to bottom they are going to be tough. They can come at you in a lot of different ways. We are excited for the challenge."
