Box Score 2 KENNESAW, Ga. – Lipscomb Baseball split a pair of games in an ASUN doubleheader at Kennesaw State on Sunday. The Bisons took game one 8-4 before falling 7-0 in game two.
Malik Williams was consistent in both games, going 4-for-7 from the plate with a triple and RBI.
GAME ONE
After a scoreless first, the Bisons came to life in the second inning, taking a quick 4-0 lead. After Lipscomb got two base runners via an error and single, designated hitter
Ethan Stamps laced a ball up the middle that allowed both runners to score for a 2-0 lead.
During the next at-bat,
David Graves crushed the ball past the left field fence to score a couple more for a 4-0 lead after two complete.
Lipscomb's offense continued to produce in the third inning, adding another run when Williams delivered an RBI single for a 5-0 lead.
Kennesaw State threatened to break the scoreboard in the bottom of the third with two runners in scoring position with just one out, but
Dylan Bierman dug in and got the outs needed to preserve the five-run lead.
The Owls started to cut into the lead in the bottom of the fourth with three runs and a run in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Lipscomb lead 5-4.
The Bisons put another on the board in the top of the sixth when the Owls were unable to come up with a pop fly that drove another run across home plate for a 6-4 lead.
Tiger Borom added another insurance run when he blasted a leadoff home run for a 7-4 lead.
Borom stayed hot and delivered an RBI single in his next at bat in the top of the eighth to increase the lead 8-4.
Tyler Guilfoil was able to get the three outs needed in the bottom of the ninth to secure the 8-4 victory. After throwing the final 4.2 innings, he improved to 3-0 on the year. Bierman threw the 4.1 innings allowing just one earned run and struck out three.
Borom and Williams combined for five of Lipscomb eight hits
GAME TWO
In the second game of the doubleheader, Kennesaw State got out to an early lead. The Owls plated a run each in the first and third inning for a 2-0 lead.
The Owls increased its lead in the bottom of the fourth after a grand slam quickly added to the run total for a 6-0 KSU lead.
Lipscomb's best chance to score came in the top of the sixth when
Brian Moore hit his second of the game with a single to left center.
Moore was pushed to scoring position when
Maddux Houghton delivered a two-out single.
Ultimately both runners were stranded keeping KSU's lead 7-0. The Bisons were unable to crack to scoreboard in the second game of the doubleheader and fell 7-0.
