Men’s Wraps Up ITA Regional Championships with Strong Doubles Showing

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lipscomb's men's tennis team took part in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships over the weekend and picked up a pair of wins in both singles play in matches and the doubles main draw.

Of the four Bisons who traveled to Knoxville to compete over the weekend, all four fell in straight sets to their opponents, but two picked up wins in their consolation matches.

Jake Penny earned a three-set victory over his opponent from Butler with scores of 7-6 (7-3), 1-6, 10-5. Carlos Salas Tulla earned the Bisons' second play in singles win over his own Butler foe in three sets at 5-7, 6-4, 10-5.

Lipscomb's squad put forward two doubles pairings for the tournament. Jake Penny and Maksim Bogdanovich teamed up against a duo from Northern Kentucky University and fell after a tense battle (8-7 (7-2)). The Bisons' second pairing of Salas Tulla and Luka Stojanovic saw a series of impressive results across the weekend.

On the first say of competition, they went to battle with a pairing from Ball State and emerged victorious from the battle 8-7 (7-1). Friday saw the duo take on familiar faces from just down the road as they handed Pavel Motl and Ondrej Horak of MTSU their first loss of the tournament in singles or doubles play in an 8-3 win.

Stojanovic and Salas Tulla went head-to-head with a duo from Louisville on Saturday in the round of 16 but their weekend came to a stop as they fell 8-1 to their opponents. On the whole, the Bisons went 3-2 in doubles play and 2-4 in singles play over the weekend.
