Women’s Tennis Concludes Fall Season with Lipscomb/Belmont Fall Invite

Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb women's tennis finished up the final tournament of their fall season on Saturday as they completed their co-hosted Lipscomb/Belmont Fall Invite. The Bisons split singles results 8-8 over the weekend and collected three doubles wins over the two-day tournament.
 
"The girls played great this weekend," said head coach Jamie Aid. "Sasha went undefeated this weekend so we're very proud of her."
 
Friday saw the Purple and Gold primarily compete on their home courts. The four freshman on the squad brought home Lipscomb's two doubles wins on the first day of the tournament.
 
Sofiia Paladi and Anait Arutiunian teamed up to defeat their Murray State opponents 6-2 while Aline Cherniaieva and Taisia Yakunina earned a 6-0 triumph over their foes from Belmont. The partnership of Liza Diachenko and Perri Howard and the duo of Anja Trbeznik and Sasha Dobranos both fell 6-2 to their opponents.
 
The Bisons went 4-4 in singles play, with featuring straight set wins from Dobranos (6-3, 6-0), Paladi (6-1, 6-1), and Yakunina (6-0, 6-1). Cherniaieva claimed Lipscomb's fourth singles in of the day in a three-set battle with her opponent from North Alabama, emerging victorious with set scores of 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
 
Saturday found the Bisons playing on Belmont's campus against Belmont opponents. The Bisons struggled in doubles play and split singles play with the Bruins.
 
Dobranos and Trbeznik earned Lipscomb's lone doubles point of the day in a 6-4 win at the top spot. The combinations of Arutiunian/Paladi, Howard/Diachenko, and Alina Cherniaieva and Emma Zakordoinec put up a hard fight against their foes, but ultimately fell 6-4 to their opponents.
 
Dobranos earned her second straight-set singles win of the weekend in the top spot for Lipscomb (6-4,7-5). Courts five, six, and seven went to Lipscomb players as well as Cherniaieva (6-4, 6-4), Yakunina (6-3, 4-6, 6-3), and Diachenko (6-4, 6-3) earned Lipscomb's final three victories of the weekend. Paladi put up a good match for the Bisons on court two but fell in after a three-set fight with her opponent (6-2, 4-6, 7-6(7-2)).
 
"Overall, this was a great way to close out the fall from a young team," Aid continued. "I'm excited to have a little rest for everyone and we're even more excited for the spring season to be here soon."

The Bisons will return to competition in the spring, kicking things off on Sunday, Jan. 15 when they welcome North Dakota to Ensworth High School for their first match of the spring season. First serve will be at 10 a.m. CT.
