Softball Drops Two on Day Two of Mardi Gras Mambo

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 YOUNGSVILLE, La. – Lipscomb's softball program began the second day of their tournament in Youngsville looking to capitalize on their 4-2 victory over Nicholls from the end of day one but were blocked by the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. The Bisons went 0-9 against Southeastern Louisiana and 3-11 against Louisiana.

The Bisons first faced the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana in a five-inning defeat. The Lions started off with a run in in each of the first two innings, earning their points off of RBIs with a homer for Southeastern Louisiana's Watson.

The Lions then racked up three run in the 3rd inning after they took advantage of a wild pitch and loaded bases to push the score up 5-0 heading into the top of the 4th. A scoreless fourth frame for the Bisons and four RBIs for the Lions pushed Southeastern Louisiana to a 9-0 lead. With the Bisons unable to front a response in the top of the 5th, the game was called, and the Lions handed the Bisons their second loss of the tournament.

Lipscomb's second game of the day started off with the Cajuns collecting a run in the top of the first frame. Louisiana extended their lead 3-0 after the top of the second frame, but the Bisons fought back with a run of their own as senior Amy Vetula notched an RBI to send Kaitlynn Hunt to home plate.
 
The Cajuns racked up four unearned runs in the 3rd inning, the final of which came on a Bisons throwing error. A scoreless 4th and scoreless top of the 5th inning for the Cajuns brought the Bisons into a good position going into the bottom of the 5th. Amy Vetula stepped back up to the plate for the Bisons and knocked a triple down center field. She was sent around to home plate by Presley Leebrick.
 
Maci Cunconan then stepped up to the plate and drew a walk to first before advancing to second base on a wild pitch. A single from Meghan Kline sent Cunconana on to home plate to bring the score to 7-3 in favor of Louisiana.
 
The Cajuns picked up four more runs in the top of the sixth frame, a single from Roman notching two RBIs and a homer from Langeliers pickup up another two to make the score 11-3 for the Cajuns.
 
Joie Giarrizzo opened the bottom of the sixth frame with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a grounder from Hunt, but the Bisons were ultimately unable to mount a response and the game with to Louisiana at a final score of 11-3.

The Bisons will be back in action Sunday, Feb. 27 to take on Louisiana Tech at 11:00 AM for their final matchup of the Mardi Gras Mambo.
