Women’s Tennis Bests Skyhawks with Stellar Singles Play

Box Score NASHVILLE – Lipscomb Women's Tennis earned their first victory of the season in a 4-3 triumph Friday over the UT Martin Skyhawks.

The Bisons began the match with a battle for the doubles point. Court two was the first to finish where Sasha Dobranos and Liza Diachenko fell 6-0 to their Skyhawk opponents.

Maddox Bandy and Perri Howard returned the favor on court three, collecting a 6-0 win to push the decision to court one. Kate Popova and Anja Trbeznik fought hard for the Bisons, but the Skyhawks took the doubles point with a 6-3 victory.

The Bisons collected the first three points in singles play as Sasah Dobranos, Maddox Bandy, and Eleanor Chapman got things started with wins on courts one, five, and six respectively. All three swept their opponents in 2-0 matches to quickly boost the Bisons into the lead.

The Skyhawks struck back with wins on courts three and four over Anja Trbeznik and Liza Diachenko to bring the match to a 3-3 stalemate.

The final point was awarded on court two where Kate Popova clinched Lipscomb's victory in a 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 battle, winning both the match for the Bisons and her first singles victory of the season.

The Bisons will next face off with Murray State on Friday, Feb. 11 at 1:00 PM at the Ensworth High School Tennis Center.
