Popova Named ASUN Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. – Lipscomb's Kate Popova earned her first ASUN player of the week title this season following a three-match week for the Bisons announced the league office Tuesday. This is Popova's fourth time receiving the honor.

Popova competed in all three matches for the Bisons this week, picking up four victories along the way.

In the Bisons' home opener against Villanova on Tuesday, she and partner Anja Trbeznik clinched the doubles point for Lipscomb with a 7-5 win on court one. Popova then earned a two-set victory over her Villanova opponent on court two to help the Bisons secure their 6-1 win (6-3, 7-6 (7-3)).

On Friday, Lipscomb faced #48 Memphis where Popova again doubled with Trbeznik at the No. 1 position, but the Tigers took the match 6-3. She was the only Bison to record a win in singles play, taking down her opponent in two sets on court two to earn the Bisons their lone point of the match (6-4, 7-5).

In the squad's final match of the week against Miami of Ohio on Saturday, Popova helped the Bisons clinch the doubles point as she and Trbeznik notched a 6-4 victory on court one to claim the point for Lipscomb. Popova battled in singles play for the Bisons at the No. 2 position but fell in three sets to her RedHawk foe (1-6, 6-0, 5-7).
