Track & Field Land Seven on ASUN All-Academic Squads

ATLANTA, Ga. – Lipscomb's track & field programs have been putting in work on and off the track this season, highlighted by landing seven athletes on the 2022 ASUN Outdoor Track & Field All-Academic Teams. The Bisons had four representatives from their men's team and three from their women's team selected to the squads as announced by the league office Friday.
 
From the men's program, Lipscomb's All-Academic selections include Joshua Bell, Ryan Bush, Jonathan Schwind, and Sam Shaylor. Bush and Shaylor mark two of the three two-time All-Academic selections on this year's squad.
 
The Bisons' women's team is represented by Merabu Nagwandala, Anna Richardson, and Ally Suyak.
 
To cap off a fantastic regular season, these seven athletes collected between them twelve top-10 finishes and seven trips to the podium at the ASUN Outdoor Championships.
 
 
Joshua Bell – GS | 4.0 GPA | MA in Leadership and Public Service. 
 
Bell recorded a 4.0 GPA in pursuit of his MA in Leadership and Public Service while competing in four meets for the Bisons this season. He competed in the 800m run, the 4x400m relay, and the 1500m run for Lipscomb and consistently logged top-10 finishes in his events. At the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational, he helped the squad finish 8th in the 4x400m relay at 3:24.78 before earning a personal best and second place finish in the 800m run with his time of 1:50.76. After not finishing the 1500m at the Georgia Tech Invitational, Bell returned to the same event at the Outdoor Music City Challenge where he claimed second place with a time of 3:51.50. At the ASUN Outdoor Championship, after finishing 8th in the preliminary round of the 800m run with a time of 1:51.25, Bell earned a trip to the finals where he earned 7th place as he posted a 1:53.26 for the event.
 
 
Ryan Bush – SR | 4.0 GPA | BS in Mechanical Engineering
 
Bush posted a 4.0 GPA as he pursued his BS in Mechanical Engineering while competing in six meets for Lipscomb this season. Some of Bush's most notable finishes of the season include 8th in the 4x400m at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational, 6th in the 800m (1:54.28) and 6th in the 4x400m relay (3:27.33) at the Outdoor Music City Challenge, and 35th in the 800m at the Joe Walker Invitational with a time of 1:54.67. At the ASUN Outdoor Championship Bush finished 12th in the 800m with his time of 1:54.44 before helping his relay squad claim third place in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:15.47.
 
 
Jonathan Schwind – GS | 3.62 GPA | Master of Business Administration 
 
Schwind posted a 3.62 GPA towards his Master of Business Administration degree whilst competing in six meets for the Bisons this season. At the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational, the usually mid-distance runner competed in the 400m dash and earned 17th with his time of 49.70 before competing in the 4x400m relay where he helped his team log the second-fastest time in program history with their finish of 3:12.57. He then earned a trio of personal bests with his time of 3:41.28 to claim 7th place in the 1500m at the Raleigh Relays and his time of 1:47.73 in the 800m at the Joe Walker Invitational, replacing his former top time set at the 2021 NCAA East Preliminaries as well as his time from the 2021 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championship. Schwind's third personal best of the season came at the Georgia Tech Invitational in the 400m dash when he logged a 48.93 to finish 14th in the event. In the last weekend of the Bisons' regular season, Schwind earned 6th in the 400m dash at the Outdoor Music City Challenge with his 49.41 before taking a trip to the podium with his 4x400m relay team as they claimed second place with their time of 3:14.65. Schwind continued his impressive season at the ASUN Outdoor Championship as he earned the Runner-Up title for the 1500m and the Conference Champion title in the 800m. Schwind secured his second place finish in the 1500m run with a 3:45.49 before claiming the top spot in the 800m with a 1:50.19.
 
 
Sam Shaylor – GS | 3.89 GPA | Master of Business Administration
 
Shaylor posted a 3.89 GPA towards his Master of Business Administration degree while competing in six meets for Lipscomb this season. Some of Shaylor's top finishes include 20th in the 5000m at the Georgia Tech Invitational with a time of 14:44.17 and a 10th place finish in the 3000m run at the Outdoor Music City Challenge with a time of 8:30.22. At the ASUN Outdoor Championship, Shaylor earned a 10th place finish and a personal best in the 10,000m run with his time of 30:42.80 as well as an 8th place finish in the 5000m with his finish of 14:53.17.
 
 
Anna Richardson – SO | 4.0 GPA | BBA in Management
 
Richardson recorded a 4.0 GPA towards her BBA in Management while competing in five meets for Lipscomb this season. She started off the season with a first-place finish in the heptathlon at the High Point - Bob Davidson Memorial with a total of 4752 points including a program record setting 12.76 in the 100m hurdles, earning an ASUN Field Athlete of the Week title on March 23rd for her efforts. Richardson next earned a 7th place finish in the 100m hurdles at 15.41 and 4th in the heptathlon with 4792 points at the Joe Walker Invitational. She next highlighted her finishes at the Georgia Tech Invitational with a then-personal-best in the javelin throw with her throw of 37.12m (121' 9") to finish 8th, which she followed with another personal best in the shot put at the Outdoor Music City Challenge where she threw a distance of 12.22m (40' 1.25") to finish 17th. While at the same meet, she also finished 13th in the high jump (1.55m/5' 1"), 14th in the long jump (5.07m/16' 7.75"), and 20th in the 100m hurdles (15.37). At the ASUN Outdoor Championship, Richardson earned a Runner-Up title for the heptathlon with her program record setting and personal-best score of 5077. She collected her points from four 3rd place finishes, two 4th place finishes, and a 2nd place finish that came in the javelin throw with her distance of 37.04m (121' 6"). Richardson then earned another personal best in the standalone javelin event when she threw 40.73m (133' 7") to earn 7th place. She concluded her time at the meet with an 11th place finish in the shot put with her distance of 11.56m (37' 11.25").
 
 
Merabu Nagwandala – SO | 4.0 GPA | Master of Business Administration
 
Nagwandala earned a 4.0 GPA towards her Master of Business Administration degree while competing in six meets for Lipscomb this season. She kicked off the season with a win as her time of 2:10.23 in the 800m earned her first place at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational before helping her relay team earn 9th in the 4x400m relay with their time of 3:54.17. She finished 44th out of 196 runners with her personal second-best time of 4:27.19 at the Raleigh Relays. Nagwandala then earned a personal best in the 800m at the Joe Walker Invitational as her time of 2:09.46 saw her finish 23rd before finishing 31st in the 1500m with her time of 4:30.69. She next earned an 8th place finish in the 1500m with a time of 4:27.54 as well as a 12th place finish in the 800m with a 2:12.42 at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Nagwandala saw another personal best at the Outdoor Music City Challenge when she earned a first-place finish in the 1500m with her time of 4:23.31. At the ASUN Outdoor Championship, Nagwandala claimed 5th in the 1500m with her time of 4:27.06. She finished 3rd in the preliminary round of the women's 800m with her time of 2:09.76 before finishing 8th in the finals at 2:18.90.
 
 
Ally Suyak – JR | 4.0 GPA | Master of Exercise Science.
 
Suyak posted a 4.0 GPA towards her Masters of Exercise Science while competing in six meets for the Bisons this season. She opened the season with a 9th place finish in the 1500m with her time of 4:36.55 at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational. She then recorded a personal best in the 5000m at the Raleigh Relays where her time of 16:51.21 saw her finish 71st. She next logged a podium finish and personal best for the 10,000m at the Flames Invitational where her time of 34:50.09 saw her to 2nd place. Suyak notched a third personal best this season at the Georgia Tech Invitational as she posted a time of 4:31.11 in the 1500m event to finish 13th. She then notched her fourth personal best of the season as her 9:37.25 earned her 4th in the 3000m event at the Outdoor Music City Challenge. At the ASUN Outdoor Championship, Suyak claimed a pair of Runner-Up titles as she earned 2nd in the 5000m with her time of 17:09.78 - less than 3 seconds behind the front runner - and 2nd in the 10,000m with her time of 35:30.76 - just over three seconds behind the front runner.
