Cross Country Teams Take First at Trevecca Invite

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb men's and women's cross country took once more to the Vaughn's Gap Cross Country Course in Percy Warner Park on Saturday morning to compete in the Trevecca Michael Pretorius Memorial Invitational. Both squads earned first place with less than 20 points, highlighted by Scott McKenzie and Lydia Miller both earning second place in their respective races.
 
The men's team kicked things off bright and early with an 8 a.m. CT start for the 8K. From the gun, the Bisons ran together behind a trio of Trevecca runners for a majority of the race before earning first place with a total of 17 points – 27 points ahead of the next team.
 
With a late push, the Bisons pulled ahead and took six of the top eight spots in the race. Making his return after missing last season with an injury, junior Scott McKenzie led the Bisons to the line with a time of 26:10.1.
 
Braedon Palmer and Brady Johnson followed McKenzie across the line in a tight finish with a time of 26:10.3 for both Bisons. Brian Risse (26:30.9), Andy Stohr (26:35.3), and Bing Hudson (26:39.7) were the next three Bisons across the line, taking sixth, seventh, and eighth place respectively.
 
The women stepped up to the starting box next and got off to a quick start. The Lady Bisons made quick work of moving to the front of the race and the Herd held onto their lead behind the unattached front runner for the remainder of the race.
 
Sophomores Lydia Miller and Kiara Carter led the tight grouping of Bisons across the line with a time of of 17:54.9 for both to claim second and third place in the meet. The next four from Lipscomb's squad – Ally Suyak, Liza Corso, Mackenzie Barnett, and Colbi Borland – crossed the line within the next 0.8 seconds to finish fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh to seal Lipscomb's first place finish with just 15 points, 51 points ahead of the next team.
