HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons took care of business with a run-rule win over Middle Tennessee in the first of two matchups this week.
Lipscomb struck early with a sequence of hits in the first inning as they raced to a four lead. Caleb Ketchup and Alex Vergara each walked to start the opening inning. After a flyout in the next at-bat, Trace Willhoite connected on a double to left center to plate Ketchup and Vergara for a quick 2-0 advantage.
Then, Austin Kelly doubled to right field to score Willhoite to add to the Bisons' first-inning scoring. Parks Bouck plated Lipscomb's final run of the first on a single to left field, capping off a four-run first, which broke the game open.
The Bisons brought home two more runs in the second on a two-run bomb by Vergara that just passed the outstretched glove of the right fielder to increase Lipscomb's lead to six runs. After another solo rocket by Ketchup to center field, the Bisons rallied off three more in the top of the fifth.
Jake Berg singled to left field, which plated another run, then David Coppedge went yard for the second time this season to score the final two for the Bisons.
Middle Tennessee broke up the scoreless outing for Alex Brewer with a run in the bottom of the six, but the right-hander tossed a superb six-inning, allowing just three hits to go along with four strikeouts. Patrick Williams closed things out in the win with two strikeouts and a forced groundout to third.
Lipscomb outhit the Blue Raiders 13-5 to add another non-conference win to their resume with another matchup with Middle Tennessee in less than 24 hours.
